HIGH SCHOOL INFORMATION - MEMO #1 September, 2016 Dear Eighth Grade Students and Parents: Welcome back to Paulo Intermediate School 75. I am sure you will have a successful year in the eighth grade. As soon as the 2016 high school applications arrive, we will have an eighth grade assembly to review the high school articulation process. For now, there are some important dates you should be aware of:
NEW YORK CITY PUBLIC HIGH SCHOOLS You can access information about the high school articulation process at the IS 75 website www.is75.org (click on guidance under the “student” tab for copies of all memos and additional important dates). The NYC public high school website is www.schools.nyc.gov. September Bard High School Early College Open Houses begin. Visit www.bard.edu/bhsec to register or for more information. You must also register for the BHSEC Admissions Exam on line, exam dates are 9/17, 9/22, 10/5, 10/6, 10/29 & 11/2 24 & 25 Citywide High School Fairs – 10:00 am – 3:00pm, at Brooklyn Technical High School, 29 Fort Greene Place, Brooklyn, NY. Sponsored by the NYC Department of Education where exhibits, workshops and information on all NYC Public High Schools will be available. October 15 &16 Borough High School Fairs – 11:00 am – 3:00 pm, at Port Richmond High School, 85 St. Josephs Ave, Staten Island, NY. 18 PTA Meeting – 7:00pm –High School Application/Articulation Workshop at IS75. After a brief PTA meeting, Mrs. Castellan will speak about the High School Application Process and filling out the High School Application. 22 or 23 Specialized High School Admissions Test (SHSAT) held at Staten Island Technical HS (if interested you must sign up using the sign-up sheet, available after the first cohesion assembly). You will receive an admission ticket prior to the exam with the date and time you should report. Students with special needs, 504 accommodations, and extended time will take the test at Staten Island Tech HS on Sunday, October 30, 2016. Any student with accommodations who cannot take the SHSAT on Sunday will take the test at Brooklyn Tech HS on Saturday, November 5, 2016. Sample exams are in the Specialized HS’s Student Handbook which is available online at www. schools.nyc.gov. November 19 & 20 LaGuardia Auditions See the Specialized High Schools Student Handbook (available online at www.schools.nyc.gov) for a description of audition requirements. **PLEASE NOTE: 1. To SIGN-UP for any public high school exam (e.g., SHSAT or BARD) and/or audition (e.g., LAGUARDIA or PPAS) please use the sign-up sheet that was distributed to students in homeroom on September 15th. YOU MUST SIGN-UP IN ORDER TO REGISTER FOR THE EXAMS/AUDITIONS. 2. If you require EXTENDED TIME you can indicate that on the SIGN-UP sheet, see Mrs. Castellan, room 235, if you have any questions.
CATHOLIC HIGH SCHOOLS You can access information about the catholic high schools at www.tachsinfo.com. In order to apply to the Catholic High Schools, you must: Register for, and take, the Test for Admission into Catholic High Schools (TACHS). Hand in the Ninth Grade Applicant Record (found on-line at tachsinfo.com) to Mrs. Castellan during morning lineup, in the cafeteria during 6th period lunch or in room 235, they are due by October 17, 2016. *Please note, you do not need to fill in the three schools that you are applying to before handing in the form. You will be receiving the form back with the 1st marking period report card, and you can fill in the choices then. If you need EXTENDED TIME you must hand in the Eligibility form (p. 4 of the Student Handbook) to Mrs. Castellan in room 235, by September 30, 2016 (You will then need to mail it to the Archdiocese; it must be received by the Archdiocese by October 7, 2016). August 22 Registration for the TACHS Exam begins.
