Red Ribbon Week Red Ribbon Week is a time that community groups, governments, and businesses commit to creating a healthy, drug free future for America. Since 1988, children have made commitments during this national celebration to the intolerance of the illegal use of tobacco, alcohol, and other drugs. The following information is provided to better understand the purpose of Red Ribbon Week and also to plan ahead for the daily topics: Red Ribbon Week originated in 1985 when Federal Agent, Enrique Camarena gave his life in the fight against drugs. Mr. Camarena's death touched the nation deeply. People felt his sacrifice should not be forgotten. As a result, the red ribbon became a symbol to reduce the demand for drugs. The Red Ribbon celebration gives individuals the opportunity to celebrate that they are against the use of illegal drugs and the illegal use of legal drugs. Red Ribbon Week will be observed in Porum to raise awareness of the negative effects of alcohol and other dangerous or illegal drugs. Below are the daily Red Ribbon Week themed activities students may participate in to show their choice to be drug free:

Halloween Carnival The Halloween carnival is also another event that our school held on October 29th in the event center. Each class creates a basket that has a theme of their choice to be auctioned off at a silent auction. There were many games, a Halloween costume contest, concession, hay ride, tattoos, a bouncy house, and hair painting. The athletic booster club put on a haunted house in the old gym. It was a fun time for all of the kids and their parents to join together with the school staff to celebrate Halloween and to top off Red Ribbon Week!

Halloween Parties Pre-k through 6TH grade has class room Halloween parties. Parents are invited to come and bring individually wrapped snacks. The kids dress up in their costumes and do a small parade through the rest of the classes, including the high school. The kids get to play games, play movies and eat their snacks starting at 2pm and lasting the rest of the day.

FCA Haunted House Trip Ever year Fellowship of Christian Athletes association takes the members to a haunted house; this year was the Hex House in Tulsa. When looking at their website they give you a warning, “The Hex House is an intense multi-element, walk-through haunted attraction themed around a dark chapter in Tulsa's haunted past. You won't find any Freddy's, Jason's, or movie scenes in The Hex House (nor will you find any cheesy animatronics or goofy props). What you will find is that you've been fully submerged in an altered reality that is much darker and less predictable than anything you've seen in the movies. As you make your way through the flickering hallways and eerie rooms of The Hex House (assuming you don't sprint out prematurely), you'll descend from mere creepiness into a full-on, intense nightmare that you won't soon forget. The goal of The Hex House isn't to entertain you, it's to completely 4 The FCA members pause for a quick photo before entering the spook house.

November 2016 Issue remove you from your comfort zone and make sure you know what sheer terror feels like....” The Hex House was said to be the second most scary spook house in the United States. Going along with the news about the killer clowns, our escort, Mr. Ferrell decided it would keep the spooky spirits alive as we were leaving to tell us that there was a truck full of killer clowns across the road. The news of which hurried the children back to the bus, where a few of the guys from the Hex House were waiting. Though most of the kids made it back on to the bus safely, a few lingered outside till the scary guys chased them around. Clay Pryor ran multiple laps around the parking lot before he ran for his life to get on the bus.

FCCLA The Porum FCCLA organization has kicked off the year with some exciting activities. We have gone to the Fort Smith fair on September 28 and had three members place in the top ten in the senior division and one member place in the top ten in the junior division. Those members are Mercedes Taylor, Cheyenne Benton, Austin Richardson, and Hannah Tiger. We have also had dinners, such as spaghetti and enchilada, to help us with fundraising. October 18 Morgan Rosson went to the Take Aim Conference in Owasso to practice leadership skills. October 26 FCCLA had seventeen members who went to the district meeting in McAlester to Reach for the Stars. Jadrea Shrum and Bradon Berry have been going to a cake decoration class in Muskogee at the Career Tech to enhance their cake decorating skills. This year the Porum FCCLA members have been putting together Halloween-o-Grams for the elementary; we have put together 335 items total. November 6 Porum FCCLA will be holding a Sunday dinner in the Porum High School cafeteria. Starting November 8, FCCLA will be holding meetings for the FCCLA members; this will be part of our community service project. November 11 FCCLA will be holding a program for all the veterans. We will be also serving a breakfast for the veterans starting at 8:00. We will then go to the Porum Event Center, which will be where the veterans program will be held.
