Camps
Let’s face it … no hockey player or camp has reinvented the game.
We all teach the same fundamental skills. What makes a camp good then? First, train on the ice where the game is played! It comes down to the quality, knowledge, and excitement of the staff and the number of hours / cost per hour of the camp. Players need to be excited and encouraged to train and there needs to be enough staff members (experienced and trained instructors) to interact with the kids on the ice to keep them excited. Peak provides a quality camp environment at a great price and in your own backyard. Don’t be fooled by what other claim to provide. Do your homework and ask questions (cost per hour, number of quality coaches, personal handouts and feedback). You will see why so many kids select the Peak Performance Hockey Camps as their place to develop their individual and game skills and why they have a blast doing it! We would highly encourage that the kids, regardless of age, are doing a little “hockey something” now and continuing into the fall and winter season. A little something could be shooting pucks, stickhandling, working on fitness and agility off the ice, working on hockey specific movements off the ice (stride jumps). Most importantly, it’s just a good thing to create some simple hockey habits and stick to them. Kids can spend as little as 15 minutes each day just stickhandling a golf ball with their eyes closed. By October they will see great improvements. Just a little “hockey something” each day and the kids will improve on skill and gain confidence. Please keep this in mind when you are training at any time …
Correctly. Correctly-powerfully. Correctly- powerfully-quickly. Correctly-powerfully-quickly with the puck. Correctly-powerfully-quickly with the puck and under lots of pressure and in game situations. 6. At the end of each practice, players should be allowed to skate fast and have fun without worrying about correct technique. 1. 2. 3. 4. 5.
So when you train this spring, summer, and fall remember that it is imperative to learn “correctly” before worrying about powerfully and quickly – no matter how long it takes. And, when performing “powerfully” and “quickly”, “correctly” is still number one. And when you can, train on the ice because that’s where the game is played!
