PET FOOD QUANTITY CALCULATIONS Calculating Dry matter DMB (Dry Matter Basis) Dry Matter = 100 - % Moisture Protein (DMB) = 100 x (Protein ÷ % Dry Matter)
Example Dry Matter = 100 - 12 (moisture) = 88 Protein (DMB) = 100 x (Protein (18) ÷ DM (88)) = 20.5%
Calculating Fat Dry Matter = 100 - % Moisture Fat (DMB) = 100 x (Fat ÷ % Dry Matter)
Example Dry Matter = 100 - % Moisture = 88 Fat (DMB) = 100 x (Fat (8.5) ÷ DM (20.5%)) = 41%
Calculating Carbs % Carbs (DMB) = 100 - (Protein + Fat + Moisture + Ash) Typical Dry (kibble) Ash Content: 7% Typical Wet (canned food) Ash Content: 1.5%
Example 100 - (Protein (18) + Fat (8.5) + Moisture (12) + Ash (7) = 54.5% Carbs
Calculating Carbs Using Fiber % Carbs (DMB) = 100 - (Protein + Fat + Fiber + Moisture + Ash)
Example 100 - (Protein (18) + Fat (8.5) + Fiber (5.5) + Moisture (12) + Ash (7) = 51% Carbs
