Phi Kappa Sigma-Gamma Xi Calendar of Events • “Lock-in for Leukemia and Lymphoma: April 2011 • Formal: 4/16 (tentative)
Greetings/Chapter Overview Greetings and happy New Year from the Gamma XI chapter! The chapter has made many strides since our last newsletter, and we are looking forward to another strong semester in the spring. The Gamma Xi chapter has grown exponentially in size, strength and brotherhood. We are proud to announce that thirteen members have successfully completed the new member process, eleven of which were initiated this spring. We are proud to announce that our external social chair, Mark Turak, is busy planning another formal, with a tentative date on April 16th. We are expecting formal to be held at a beach, but the details have not been finalized yet. If any of you all are interested in coming, please let us know! Last year was $200/couple. Also, don’t forget to check out our new website- it should be running in the next week: gmupks.com! The temporary address is site22.chapterspot.com.

Social The Gamma Xi chapter is proud to announce that it has three great mixer opportunities lined up. Alpha Phi has asked for us to extend them a mixer invitation. while Chi Omega and Zeta Tau Alpha have both agreed to mix with us, thought a date has yet to be set for both.
As far as athletics, the chapter is extremely excited to begin basketball season for another shot at greatness. Last year, we were defeated to Chi Psi in a triple-overtime playoff game, and look to redeem ourselves this season.

Rush Our Vice President/Rush Chair, Taz Tareque, has continued the chapter’s successful recruitment tactics from the fall. Using a variety of marketing techniques and increasing our target demographics, in combination with a more aggressive attitude towards recruitment, the Gamma Xi chapter has yet again exceeded all expectations. Despite spring recruitment generally being a slow time, the chapter gave out 25 bids, 18 of which accepted, making this class the largest spring pledge class in history, and one of the top three largest (if not the largest) spring class in IFC. With an active roster of 31, that’s a 58% increase in membership size!
Alumni picnic/football in the fall- thanks for the great turnout!.

Fundraising/Philanthropy The Gamma Xi chapter has benefited greatly by members working the Redskins merchandise stands at FedEx field, coordinated by Fundraising Chair Peter Dulla. Around $10,000 has been earned towards members’ dues for this football season alone. We will continue to work these games, in addition to working for Atlantic Valet. Our philanthropy chair, Eric Laveault, has big expectations for a joint philanthropy event with other student organizations. One of his ideas includes a twenty-four hour “lock-in” for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, which will be open to a handful of other student organizations. This event will take place sometime in April.

Greetings Gamma Xi Alums, This is Ted Kramer, the Chapter Advisor, and I just wanted to give you an update from my perspective. This chapter has never been in better shape, financially, academically, or socially. We just took in a new class this past fall that increased our size by 50%, we had a record number of men make Dean's List this past semester and we have never been busier socially or athletically. As a member of the National Executive Committee, these facts have not been lost at National. Gamma Xi is recognized as a chapter on the rise and was even cited by the National Alpha, Doug Opicka, for its Fraternally, remarkable pledge class size. So, if you are in town or local, please come by for a visit. You can call me at any time if you have any questions. You can truly be proud of your chapter.
