Launch the Photo Editor
Click PHOTO EDITOR

Choose Expert Editing Mode

Make Layers Window Visible
Click EXPERT Mode
Click F11 or click LAYERS icon ❏
Create a New, Blank File
FILE menu, NEW, Blank File...

Provide Name, Size, Resolution, Color Mode, and Background

Download and Open Thanksgiving Background Image
Download a Thanksgiving background image from Skills page on class website; Save to USB FILE menu, OPEN Navigate to image on USB; Click OPEN

Enable the Photo Bin
Click on the Photo Bin icon. At this point, you should see something like this:

Insert Background Image
Drag Thanksgiving background from the Photo Bin onto the blank canvas

Rename layer
Double-click the layer you just created and rename it Thanksgiving Background

Resize Thanksgiving Background
■ FREE TRANSFORM (CTRL+T) ■ Drag on the corners to resize ■ Click green check mark to apply

Rotate Thanksgiving Background

View Rulers
VIEW menu, RULERS or SHIFT+CTRL+R

Position Guides
Position the pointer inside a horizontal or vertical ruler and then drag each guide to the desired location
FREE TRANSFORM (CTRL+T) Choose rotate transform option Set angle to 45 degrees Click green check mark to apply

Create Picture Background
Select EYEDROPPER TOOL, click desired color on Thanksgiving background to set foreground color ■ Select ROUNDED RECTANGLE TOOL
■ Set radius to 30 px ■ Create shape within the guides ■ Rename newly created layer to Picture Background ❏
Set Message Background

Create a Holiday Message Text Layer
■ Select HORIZONTAL TYPE TOOL from toolbar ■ Click on canvas and type your holiday message ■ Change size of text, font, color, etc. ■ Rename newly created layer to Holiday Message

Create Placeholders for Desired Number of Pictures
Select MOVE TOOL and position more guides Select ROUNDED RECTANGLE TOOL Set radius to 30 px Create shape within the guides Pick white from ‘Set color for new layer’ drop-down ■ In layers palette, set Opacity to 50% ■ Rename newly created layer to Message Background

Select MOVE TOOL and position more guides Select ROUNDED RECTANGLE TOOL Set radius to 30 px Create shape within the guides Rename newly created layer Make sure Opacity of layer is 100%

Insert Pictures into Placeholder and Apply Clipping Mask
Find pictures for your holiday card and for each:
Save Image
FILE menu, SAVE FOR WEB
■ FILE menu, OPEN ■ Add picture to canvas above desired placeholder. ■ Use MOVE TOOL and FREE TRANSFORM (CTRL+T) to size and position ■ LAYERS menu, CREATE CLIPPING MASK (CTRL+G)
Save with the following options:
Name firstnamelastinitial_thanksgiving.jpg; SAVE ❏
Save Project
FILE menu, SAVE; thanksgiving.psd; SAVE
