Pine Braided Bracelet 1
Gather your tools and materials. You'll need scissors and tape for sure. You may want to grab a pair of pliers and clear nail polish.
3
Pull the button to the center of the cords and fold them in half.

Thread both pieces of cord through the hole in the gold button.
4
Tape the button to your work surface to secure it while you braid. Line up the cords so that one cord is on the inside and one is on the outside. Separate the two strands on the left from the two on the right. You're hands will look like this before you start braiding: Left Hand 1: black 2: green Right Hand 3: green 4: black PAGE 1 of 4
5
The basic idea of this braid is that you're just constantly moving the exterior strands to the interior. First, take the outer strand in your right hand (we named this dude 4) and move it so that it is the innermost strand in your left hand.
7
Now you'll move the outermost stand on the lefthand side to be the innermost strand in the righthand side. Outer to inner. Left to right.
9
Again, you're moving the outermost strand on the right (this time it's green) to be the innermost strand on your left hand. FOR THE MAKERS | FEBRUARY 2013
6
Your hands will now look like this. Left Hand: 1,2,4 Right Hand: 3
8
That's it! Repeat these two passes for the rest of the braid. Outermost strand to innermost. Righthand side to left. Outermost strand to innermost. Lefthand side to right.
10
Then move the outermost strand in your left to be the innermost strand in your right hand. PAGE 2 of 4
11
Tighten as you go to keep the braid consistent. You'll start to see the chevron pattern appear after a few passes.
13
Depending on your wrist size you'll need around 8 to 10 inches of braided cord. Once it looks like you're close to that length measure the braid on your wrist. Remember that clasp is braided too so factor in enough braid to go around both your wrist and the gold button. It's easy to unbraid any extra length at the end so err on the side of more than less.
15
Create the loop that will become the closure. Snip one of the cords. FOR THE MAKERS | FEBRUARY 2013
12
As your braid progresses you may want to move the tape lower to make braiding easier.
14
When your braid is long enough slide the brass donut bead onto the end of all four cords. This will act as a stopper.
16
Use the snipped cord (we used black) to wrap around the loop several times. This will create the button closure. PAGE 3 of 4
17
Tie a tight double knot to secure the wrapped loop. Add a drop of clear nail polish and let dry completely.
19
Open the tiny jump ring. Use this (http://forthemakers.tumblr.com/post/11863998979/jumpring411) tutorial if this is your first time. Slip the jump ring around one of cords close to the button.
18
Trim all four cords, leaving about a half an inch tail coming out of the brass bead.
