PIPELINE TRANSPORTATION LABOURER #ConstructionHelper #TerminalWorker #Pipeliner #LineWalker You play a role in constructing pipelines across the country that provide access to oil and natural gas. You provide the manual labour assistance to tradespeople for the preparation, construction and post-construction phases of a pipeline project. When it comes to getting pipelines built, you roll up your sleeves and do some of the heavy lifting.
What does this career look like? While in the field, you help with the majority of manual labour. You may be removing rocks, hand filling trenches, handling the loading of pipe as it is guided through bending equipment, creating even ground for vehicles, applying primer, protective coating and wrapping the pipe or covering the pipe with topsoil once it has been laid. There are a number of roles: 4 Maintenance/Terminal/Station Workers assist in preventative maintenance and the repair and upgrade of pipelines, pumping stations and pipeline facilities/oil tank farms. 4 Line Walkers patrol the pipeline on foot, horseback or other means to identify any leaks, washouts, breaks in joints or damaged communication infrastructure.

HOW DO I GET HERE? A high school diploma (or equivalent) is preferred, and onthe-job training is typically provided by employers. This is an entry-level occupation. Employees must be able to pass a pre-employment physical assessment and drug test. Licensing Some positions will require a valid driver’s licence and a clean driving record.

What would I do? You’re helping to set up tools and equipment required for the day and providing the heavy lifting required to get the job done. You may be digging, handling pipe, moving skids, inspecting pipe or operating machines or vehicles. Specifically, you may be: 4 Inspecting exposed pipe to determine if its protective coating is adequate 4 Creating a uniform grade on site to ensure equipment can move onto and along a right-of-way easily 4 Assisting with equipment and tool clean-up
