Piping-Binding Class Taught by

This is a half-day class where you will learn the techniques for making fool-proof scalloped edge binding, as well as applying piping to the binding or interior of your quilt to give it a real ‘punch’. Gretchen will also show you how to apply a flange and a different method to apply a narrow inner border that eliminates one of the ¼” seams reducing the chance of an uneven narrow border. Supply List A copy of the book/kit “Piping Hot Binding” by Susan Cleveland Sewing machine in good working order, that you know how to use, with a quarter-inch foot and a standard foot for sewing. Your standard sewing supplies Small iron and ironing board or mat; shop will have one or two for general use, but it’s nice if you have your own to use 12” x 6” ruler or similar size Purple Thang Medium size cutting mat Rotary cutter – 45mm or 60mm New rotary blade Size 70 Microtex sharp needles High quality cotton sewing thread; I like Aurifil thread for top and bobbin Any of your own quilt projects you will use as ‘samples’ to learn these techniques o Cording, piping and binding materials as described in the Piping Hot Binding book. OR Gretchen will have kits for you to purchase from her which will contain materials to create samples of the different techniques. Kits will range from $5 - $10 depending on the techniques you want to sample.
