Plainfield East High School Bengal Athletic Boosters Club January 11th, 2017 Meeting Minutes

Meeting called to order: 7:01 p.m. by Tim Kucera Attendance: Tim Kucera, Sue Noyes, Marty Romero, An Campbell, Wendy Stevens Meeting Minutes from December presented for approval-Approved. An Campbell made the motion to approve, Marty Romero 2nd. All were in favor. Raffle Ticket Winner was Susie Hansen- sport chosen was Dance. Executive Board Reports • President, Eric Jameson- Absent o Gearing up in preparation for the upcoming 3nd Annual Candlelight Bowling. Also, planning is underway for the March Madness Event and East vs. North Golf Outing. • Vice-President, Tim Kucera- Present • Secretary, Michele Cozza-Absent o Team reps in attendance tonight from Dance, Softball, Boys Track, Boys Basketball (V), Girls Soccer, and Girls Bowling. We need one rep for each sport to communicate between the Boosters Club and their sport. Thank you to all of the teams that have a team rep! • Treasurer, Sue Noyes- Present o Current Balances • Main non-profit Account: $12,416.89 ending balance, true balance of $8000.23, taking out $4,416.66 to North and Central HS for Corporate Challenge. • Concessions Account: $20,308.39 ending balance • Concessions, An Campbell-Present o Thursday, Jan 19th will be the Brawlatorium vs North for wrestling in the auditorium. On Jan. 20th another Brawlatorium will take place vs. South. Boys Basketball games on 1/20 as well. Brawlatorium is a unique and fun venue to support the East Wrestling team. o Top team volunteers in concessions are from: 1) Girls Tennis, 2) Boys Volleyball, 3) Boys Cross Country. o Always in need of volunteers. Sign up is available online. Earn $10 towards your sport per concession volunteer time. Volunteer in concessions 10 times per school year and receive an entry for a gift card prize. Thank you for supporting your East Bengals! • Membership, Barb Sciezcka-Absent o 164 Booster Members currently this school year, with 195 students. • Spirit Wear, Marty Romero- Present o Will be selling PEHS Spirit Wear at the upcoming Freshman Orientation Night 1/18/17. • Fundraising, Wendy Stevens-Present o The Candlelight Bowling Event will be held at Joliet Town and Country Lanes on January 21st, 2017. 2 games of bowling set up as four bowlers per lane. Candlelight bowlers will have a cocktail hour reception from 8- 9:30 pm with pizza and pop. Bowling will begin at approximately 9:45 pm. Silent auction, 50/50 raffle, and raffle tickets for baskets will be available. Actively seeking donations from each sport. RSVP’s have been low, trying to make a big push at all sporting events during the next two weeks to maximize exposure to the event. Big raffle item is 50 inch Smart TV. o Thank you for the raffle basket donations from the PEHS Athletic Office, Competitive Cheer, Competitive Dance, Boys Bowling, Nicole Lane, and Baby & Kids Furniture Outlet. Upcoming Events • 3rd Annual Candlelight Bowling on Jan 21st.

Bengal Bookworms at the Boys Varsity Game and Girls Varsity Game. The young readers will be recognized at their choice of the PEHS Girls at halftime or the Boys basketball game before the game. Each reader will receive a Bengal bookworm t-shirt for their accomplishment from the PEHS Booster Club. • “Pack the House” Event: PEHS and PSHS are teaming up for the Special Olympics Basketball Game on 2/1/17 at PSHS. Booster Club donated a raffle basket for the event. • March Madness Fundraiser: Looking at options for the April 1st event. Ø Athletic Director Report- Tim Torkelson •

Girls Gymnastics Mackenzie Mathis is doing well, having fun representing Plainfield East and meeting a lot of gymnasts all over the area. She is competing in the Oswego HS competition tonight vs Oswego & St. Charles. She is working hard to make it through Regionals to Sectionals, which will be held at Oswego High School on Rt. 71 in Oswego on Thursday, February 9 at 6:00pm. Girls Basketball The team beat Joliet Central last night to go to 13-4 on the season. 3 of their 4 losses are to teams ranked in the top 8 in the Chicagoland area. At their Christmas tournament they placed 2nd and Lota Onua & Ashley Smoldt were named All-Tournament team. They play at Plainfield Central on Friday night and in DeKalb for a MLK weekend tournament on Saturday and Monday vs. some of the top teams in the State. Cheerleading Varsity placed 10th out of 27 teams at the Buffalo Grove Invitational this past Sunday. Both levels will be competing at Romeoville HS for Conference this Saturday. Varsity will be at Plainfield South on Sunday for another competition. Wrestling The highlight for the team so far this season has been winning the Hinsdale South Invite on December 3rd. Their dual meet record currently sits at 7-10. Then individually they are led by returning State finalist Michael McGee who is ranked as high as 5th nationally at his weight class and is currently undefeated on the season. Dance The Conference Competition will be held on Saturday, January 14th at Romeoville High School. Sectionals will be Saturday, January 21st at Geneva. Boys Bowling The season is winding down. During the season they have enjoyed promising results in the final stretch, with noticeable growth in holiday invites over the winter break. Varsity finished with 2 wins in dual meets, but were competitive in several more. The bowlers celebrated 6 Seniors with an exciting and very close Senior Night match against rival Plainfield North on December 14th. The 6 seniors include Nick Bailey, Bill Foster, Judah Garner, Matt Hozian, Nick Pearson and Steve Volling. The Varsity team finished the season with a strong 7th place finish at the SPC Conference Invite at Echo Lanes. They are hoping to carry the momentum and overall improvement into the Regional tournament this Saturday at Parkside Lanes in Aurora. Girls Bowling So far the girls have achieved new goals both individually and as a team. The girls have shot over 900 scratch 10 times this season, which is averaging 180 per person. Also, for the first time ever the girls qualified for the silver division at Strikefest, which is the largest tournament of the season. Individually, sophomore Kayla Dench achieved her first 600 series. Brittney McCarthy achieved her 3rd. Both are sitting in the top ten for Conference right now.
