Me Libraries Patrons who have registered for ME Libraries using their old barcode must re-register using their new barcode on melibraries.ca. If a patron has holds in ME Library locations (e.g., Parkland Regional Library) they should not dispose of their old card until all of their ME Library holds have been canceled and/or picked up. Until then, patrons must use their old card at ME Library locations
Plastic Card Rollout Procedures Checklist Before updating a patron to a plastic card ask the patron the following questions:
Questions? Email:
[email protected]
Do you have any holds, checkouts or wishlist items in Overdrive or 3M Cloud Library? Do you have a reading history in OverDrive or 3M Cloud that you wish to keep? Have you registered your old barcode for ME Libraries?
If the patron answers ‘yes’ to any of these questions, see the eResource troubleshooting tips inside this pamphlet before switching to the new plastic card.
eResource Troubleshooting Some eResources will be impacted by changing barcodes, including OverDrive and 3M Cloud Library.
Overdrive Switching patron barcodes will cause patrons to lose the following information in OverDrive: • • • •
holds items checked out saved wishlists their reading history
Update a Profile with a New Barcode Once you have completed the checklist, you can upgrade the patron to a new plastic card. Follow these steps in the Polaris Staff Client:
1. Open the Patron Record 2. Open the General Tab of the Patron Record 3. Right click and copy the old barcode (or click CTRL+C) 4. Paste the old barcode into the "Former Barcode" field* 5. Delete the old barcode from the "Barcode" field
6. Scan the new barcode from the plastic card into the "Barcode" field 7. If your patron is also renewing their membership, double check that their address and other contact information is up to date (email, phone number, etc.) 8. Save the Patron Record
If the patron wishes to maintain their items checked out, holds, etc., a request must be sent to merge accounts. To request a merge, e-mail:
[email protected] the old and new barcodes, using the subject line "Merge Patron Accounts." For libraries with multiple requests, you may email a spreadsheet or list of old and new barcodes. Merging accounts is not necessary for patrons not using OverDrive or those with no information they wish to retain (e.g., patrons who currently have no holds or items checked out on their account).
3M Cloud Library The 3M platform cannot merge cards, so if a patron changes their barcode and they have activity, they will lose it. You may wish to confirm that the patron has no activity on their current card before you switch cards.
*The old barcode is only saved for future reference, once the updated patron record is saved the patron will no longer be able to login to TRACPac or eResources using their former barcode
