Player Code of Conduct - Baseball/Softball 1. Each player should have his/her own glove and shoes (preferably baseball/softball shoes). In addition, each player is required to wear the appropriate protective gear necessary to protect the player from injury 2. Players will not swear or use degrading and/or unacceptable language. 3. Players will not use obscene or unacceptable physical gestures. 4. Players will not taunt opposing teams, coaches, fans or umpires with unsportsmanlike behavior. This includes, but is not limited to yelling “batter, pitcher, swing, miss it, etc”. Cheer your team on and use good sportsmanship. 5. Players will not question any call made by the umpire. In the event a player gets ejected from a game by the umpire, they will be suspended the following game and face further disciplinary action from the Baseball/Softball Director and/or LHYA Board. 6. Players will hustle on and off the field and will practice good sportsmanship at all times. 7. Players will treat teammates, coaches, fans, officials and opponents with respect. Again, root for the success of your team, not the failure of the opposing players. 8. No siblings, friends and/or parents (legal guardians) are permitted in the dugout during the game without the permission of the Head Coach. In addition, all players are required to remain in the dugout during games at LHYA. Medical (injuries) and personal (restroom) emergencies may require the player to leave the dugout or parents to enter the field of play. 9. During the regular season, LHYA post-season tournaments and/or Shrine tournaments, all LHYA sponsored teams are required to wear the jerseys and hats issued by the LHYA. 10. All players are expected to attend team functions (practices, scrimmages, games, LHYA fund raisers, etc.) on a regular basis and are also expected to arrive on time for the team functions. Failure to attend team functions on a timely and regular basis may result in benching or suspension. Exceptions to this rule are made for school related functions. The Head Coach is permitted to bench or suspend a player for not consistently attending team functions or for consistently being late provided the disciplinary action is conducted pursuant to these rules. The Head Coach may also bench a player for not assisting in the fund raising efforts associated with the particular league with such discipline to be made in. 11. Any LHYA player who demonstrates unacceptable or unsportsmanlike behavior that is in conflict with the LHYA Codes of Conduct will be subject to disciplinary procedures.

In the event a player is subject to benching or suspension as a result of Code of Conduct violations, and after review by the LHYA Baseball/Softball Director along with the LHYA Board Members, the player may be disciplined up to, but not limited to losing eligibility for All Star selection and/or All Star play. In the event a player receives two forms of disciplinary action in the same season (either benching and/or suspension) the LHYA Baseball/Softball Director, along with the LHYA Board, will review the violation and the player is subject to further discipline up to, but not limited to, suspension from LHYA baseball/softball for the remainder of the season with no refund of entry fees. 13. Each of the Minors and Majors players is to play a minimum of two innings and bat at least one time during all regular season games. Coach Pitch players shall play a minimum of three innings. Exceptions to this rule may exist for disciplinary reasons. Coaches are to remember that all players are to be given the opportunity to play. Coaches who violate this rule will be subject to review by the LHYA Baseball/Softball Director and LHYA Board members. Any player who is benched in violation of the minimum playing rule shall play the entire next two games. If it is the last game of the year, the team in violation of this rule shall forfeit the game. 14. LHYA does allow players to move up early. If a player would like to move up to the next level before his/her age allows, he/she must get approval from the LHYA Baseball/Softball Director and LHYA Board. They will be required to tryout if one is offered and a decision will be made thereafter. 15. Players are expected to eat an appropriate meal prior to arriving at the LHYA ball park for a game. Eating in the dugout before and/or during a game is a distraction and is discouraged. 16. Any player who is suspended by the LHYA Baseball/Softball Director (with majority consent of the other LHYA Board members present at the LHYA facilities) shall have the right of appeal to the LHYA Board.
