Driving to Zero: Best Practices in Pressure Injury Prevention About the speaker: David W. Brett: Joined S&N in 1993. After spending 13+ years in the R&D Dept. moved into the Clinical Affairs arm of Smith & Nephew’s Wound Management GBU. He was awarded a patent for a novel water based skin film forming skin protectant (5,948,400). Also, has published a book entitled “A Historic Review of Topical Enzymatic Debridement”, written several journal articles and has “guest authored” chapters for university texts. Prior to Smith & Nephew he worked at Honeywell, Largo, FL, where he participated in projects such as the development of the main engine controller of the Space Shuttle, as well as, the “ring-gyro” system utilized by the Space Shuttle & various other more “classified” initiatives. For the past 25 yrs., Mr. Brett’s job experience has centered around Chemistry (Analytical & Biochemistry) & Biology. Mr. Brett has developed many products currently on the market in the area of Skin Care, Wound Care, & has performed research in cutting edge areas of Biochemistry as it relates to skin & wound care. Mr. Brett’s professional background also includes 1 year in Tezukayama, Japan, where he taught English grammar. Mr. Brett holds a BS in Biology, a BS in Chemistry & a MS in Organic Chemistry all from the University of South Florida, Tampa, FL. In addition, has performed extensive research in the areas of Organic & Polymer Chemistry.
