Alternative Methods of Instruction Plan for PJHS In the event that school should be closed because of weather or extenuating circumstances, PJHS students, teachers, and staff will participate in Virtual Days. Virtual Days will be defined as days that school is closed for weather or extenuating circumstances. Students and teachers will be required to participate to reduce the loss of academic practice and learning. Staff will be required to participate in order to make up for the loss of that day. Attached is a packet of activities for each day. Students will be responsible for keeping up with these for the remainder of the school year. If lost, please contact the Admin Office for another copy. Notifying Parents and Students about Virtual Days: 1. Prior to school closure a letter will be sent home with all students. A press release to local newspaper and radio station will be made prior to school closure. 2. An announcement on the school website stating the school’s Virtual Day Policy will be posted permanently. 3. An announcement on the District’s Live Feed, Twitter, and Facebook, via Thrillshare will be made prior to school closure. 4. Also, on the day of the closure - it will be announced on KAIT8, District Robo Call, and on the radio that Pocahontas Public Schools will not be in session but a Virtual Day will be in place. Teachers: 1. The assignment may be turned in electronically if student has internet access. If student does not have internet access then the assignment may be returned to first period teacher upon return to school. 2. Teachers should be available either through email during a designated period of time during the closure or by remind text. 3. Students not having access to internet or cell phone will have two days once school is back in session to discuss assignment with teacher if any questions or concerns exists. 4. If weather or circumstances permit, the teachers will come in and work from their classrooms grading the AMI assignments or fielding questions and comments from students. Students: 1. PHS and PJHS students will be notified prior to school closure as to how the assignment will be communicated to students. 2. Students will complete the assignment and return electronically or on the first day of school if internet access is not available. 3. Accountability/Attendance Validation - Completion of assignment, check in through google classroom, email, remind text, or phone call to school (voicemail). 4. Student contact with teachers for questions or comments will be available through google classroom, email, or remind text during a specified time of day. Administrators: 1. If weather or circumstances permit, the administrators will be on campus working and ensuring teachers and staff are safe and are able to communicate with students as needed. 2. Administrators will be available to communicate with students and parents as needed.
