LEARN-TO-SKATE Welcome to the Learn to Skate Program and the PHMHA family. PHMHA would like to thank you for choosing us for your youth skater’s lessons. We look forward to having your skater in our program and wish for his/her continued success in all on ice activities. Below are a few guidelines that we would like skaters and parents to follow in order to keep the season running smoothly and to ensure your skater’s safety, happiness and success. Be on time - Please have your skater prepared to take the ice at their scheduled ice time. Ice time is precious and you don’t want to waste ice time parking or tying skates. Please be aware that upon occasion ice times might change. If a scheduled practice time changes, an email will be sent to the email address that you have on file with PHMHA. The most up to date ice schedule is available online at www.phhockey.com under the team page. Attire- It is mandatory that all skaters wear helmets and gloves during skate lessons. The best / safest helmet for skating is a helmet with a face mask. The skaters will fall and the ice is cold. Having thick water resistant gloves or mittens will help keep little fingers warm. Skates should be well fitting without laces dragging on the ice. Skates that are too big could result in blisters and poor skating performance. Ones that are too small can cause a decrease in circulation which will make feet feel cold and painful. Doubling up socks is not a good idea. Also remember that skaters should only wear skates on the ice or in designated areas. Black or Blue rubber mats indicate where a skater can safely walk without damaging the blades on their skates. Please do not walk on the bleaches or cement. Spectating- Please watch your skater from the bleaches. Sitting in these seats allows us to know where you are in case your child needs you and also lets your child know where you are so they are not looking for you. If you are next to your child on the glass, they might be distracted and not listen to the coach’s instruction. Penalty boxes and player benches are off limits as they will at times contain our supplies and equipment as well as distract your little one. Ice Surface- At no time are parents allowed on the ice during learn to skate. Progress Updates or Concerns- Please do not disturb coaches during a lesson. Ice time is precious. Talk to the coaches before or after the skate. HAVE FUN- Please be supportive of your skater. Positive thoughts generate positive feelings that generate positive life experiences. We at PHMHA are dedicated to each skater’s success. Whether it is in hockey or figure skating, our learn-to-skate program can help your skater excel in any on ice endeavor. Should you have any questions during the season please feel free to contact us at any time. Thank you, PHMHA Learn to Skate Coaches
