Position Objective The Youth Engage Program Worker is responsible for the facilitation of all youth spaces and workshops across the Shire in partnership with young people. In accordance with Youth Engagement Program service agreement and Council requirements.

Key Responsibilities and Duties
To facilitate and support all council run youth spaces and workshops as outlined in the Engage service agreement.
To work in partnership with young people and their local communities to create visible and welcoming youth spaces and culture in the Macedon Ranges.
To be the lead worker in at least two Youth Space programs per week
Develop and conduct the workshops as outlined in the service agreement
Provide support and manage all Engage support staff.
To maintain best practice policies and procedures for the youth spaces and workshops.
To develop an evaluation framework for all Engage program areas.
To collate all data related to the Engage programs on a weekly basis.
To develop and maintain a communication plan for all Engage program work.
To build solid relationships with appropriate staff in all Macedon Ranges secondary schools to promote the Engage work.
To assist the Youth Development Unit in leadership development opportunities for young people
To promote the Engage programs through oral presentations at schools and community gatherings with the aid of multimedia techniques.
To assist in maintaining appropriate reporting records in accordance with Engage and Council requirements and prepare reports and other information as requested.

Roster and manage staff/student changes in accordance with instructions from Manager.
Develop holiday program activities.
Run workshops and events, promoting skill development in young people.
Note: This position will require the ability to work flexible hours (Evenings/ occasional weekends).

Regularly inspect own immediate work environment and report all hazards or incidents that can cause harm or that represent a threat to public safety
Ensure staff follow safe work practices, procedures, instructions and rules at all times and report potential breaches.
Ensure compliance with the provisions of the Occupational Health and Safety Regulations at all times.
Ensure that identified risks are reported to line managers and identified risk reduction strategies are implemented.
Ensure compliance with Council’s Occupational Health & Safety and Risk Management Policy and Procedures.
Record Keeping This position is responsible for ensuring that records are created which will adequately document the business activities in which they take part, and that the records created and received are captured into the appropriate and authorised recordkeeping systems in accordance with records management policy.

Accountability and Extent of Authority
In accordance with Council policies and Engage guidelines the Youth Engage Program Officer is responsible for the day to day operations of the Engage funded Program.
Freedom to act is subject to guidance and supervision by the Coordinator Youth Development Unit.

The ability to seek direction and apply professional knowledge, skills and experience within the context of local government service delivery and to resolve complex situations and/or operational issues in accordance with the Engage Program and Council procedures and guidelines.
Guidance, advice and direction are usually available within the time available to make a choice.

Specialist Knowledge and Skills
Evidence of highly developed skills relating to young people and an understanding of the issues that impact upon young people and their connections to family and community.
Understanding, knowledge and experience of models of youth participation, engagement, community consultation and development.
Knowledge and experience in supporting young people to plan, organise and implement youth projects and programs.
Excellent multimedia skills, ability to work with a variety of Multimedia software.
Sound evaluation methodology and data collation techniques.
Management Skills
An ability to manage time, set priorities, plan/organise one’s own work, and where appropriate that of others, in accordance with established objectives, available resources and hours of work.
Sound knowledge of personnel practices and the ability to provide employees under their supervision with on-the-job training, support and guidance.
Effectively manage rostering of volunteers/casuals/students.
Interpersonal Skills
The Youth Engage Program Officer in prior consultation with the Coordinator of Youth Development is responsible for the completion of various reports as required and requested by the Engage Program and Council.
The ability to communicate effectively and engage all sectors of the community including; service providers, schools, council staff, young people and their families.
Well-developed communication skills, both written and verbal.
The ability to communicate in a professional manner at all times
Ability to self-reflect and adapt interaction skills to a variety of stakeholders.
A sound understanding of current conflict resolution techniques and methods, and the ability to implement them.

Qualifications and Experience
A degree or diploma or other qualifications and/or some experience in the areas of Youth Work, Community Development or other relevant disciplines, or some experience in youth services and/or community development.
A current driver’s license and access to a private vehicle.
Current Working with Children Check Card.
Selection Criteria 1. A degree or diploma or other qualifications and/or some experience in the areas of Youth Work, Community Development or other relevant disciplines, or some experience in youth services and/or community development. 2. Demonstrated experience working with and engaging young people. 3. Proven ability in negotiating and developing positive working relationships with staff, community, young people, parents and the youth service system. 4. Demonstrated well-developed written and verbal communication skills. 5. An ability to identify and implement current conflict resolution techniques and methods. 6. Demonstrated high quality, effective organisational and time management skills. 7. Well-developed Multimedia skills. 8. Well-developed skills in developing and conducting evaluation of Engage program work. 9. Willingness to undertake a National Police Check. Note: Appointment is subject to the successful completion of this check. 10. Hold a current Working with Children Card prior to commencement.
