RELATE
Positive Peer Pressure What idea, insight, or illustration from Rob’s message do you want to talk about in your group? What happened this week that you’re happy about?
READ & REFLECT
What have you faced this week that could use some perspective and support from faithful friends?
What do these verses say about the nature and practices of Christian community? What obligations do we have to the members of our group and church? Which ones surprise or concern you? These passages encourage a high degree of engagement in each others’ lives and business that rubs against cultural values of privacy, tolerance, and conflict-avoidance. How do they also guard against spiritual superiority and overstepping? Which of the “one-anothers” encouraged in these verses does this group practice well? Which ones are new or challenging for the group? What steps can this group take towards growth in this area? Do you agree with Rob’s assertion that each of us is generally the average of those we surround ourselves with? What does that say about our obligation to our friends, believers or not? Have you paid attention to the impact your daily attitude and choices have on your friends? What is an area of life you’ve identified in which you want to grow? Who do you know that is strong in this area who might share what they know with you? How might this group help you in this area? How safe do you feel in honestly sharing your thoughts and concerns with those close to you? How do you develop the trust needed to be honest with them? It’s sometimes easier to share with others about where we see their need for growth. How do we keep ourselves open to hearing about ways we need to grow ourselves?
RESPOND
Does anybody know what you’re feeling or facing currently? What keeps you from sharing your struggles, weaknesses, dreams and needs with the people close to you, those in this group? Act What encouragement or example can you share with or receive from a fellow believer? Reflect When we get together, I want to encourage you in your faith, but I also want to be encouraged by yours.
