The Essex SEND Information Advice and Support Service is holding a free workshop day for parents/carers of children and young people with special educational needs and disabilities. There will be workshops in the morning and afternoon (including a buffet lunch), offering knowledge and skills which you can then adapt at home. The event also offers the opportunity to meet or catch up with other parents. Details of the event are: Thursday 17th March 2016 at Wat Tyler Centre, Wat Tyler Country Park, Pitsea Hall Lane, Pitsea, Basildon, Essex. SS16 4UH. From the choices listed below please choose, in order of preference, one workshop for the morning session and one for the afternoon session along with one further workshop in case one of your choices is fully booked. Workshop aim: How to understand the behaviour of children with autism and social communication difficulties, with strategies to help support change
Understanding Emotional Health With Lesley Bailey (InterAct)
Workshop aim: Based upon nationally/ internationally recognised Youth Mental Health First Aid training. This workshop will raise the awareness of mental health issues in children/ young people, help with understanding the signs and symptoms with regard to adolescent development and enable you as a parent to know how to respond. To include sign posting to resources and other helpful materials.
Building Resilience in children & young people. With Maggie Butler (Specialist Teacher)
Workshop aim: To understand how to build resilience in children/young people with autism and social communication difficulties.
What is ADHD? With Steve Challen
Workshop aim: To give an understanding of the key aspects of the condition and to look at practical help and support to families and carers of children with ADHD and co-existing conditions.
Mindfulness With Debbie Pritchard
Workshop aim: This workshop will help you to gain an understanding of what mindfulness is and will give you techniques to use for both yourself and your child/ young person to help to better manage situations.
