Prayer for the New Year O Star-Flinging God, whose light dances across eternity, dazzle me into your presence this new year. Open my heart to the mystery of your love; Awaken my days to your presence, knit to my ordinary; Reveal to me what is possible but not present; Heal me just enough that I might be a healer; Reconcile me to you and to myself that my living might be reconciling; Stop me often, I pray, with news that is good; with hope that holds, with truth that transforms, with a Word tailored to this trail I’m on. May the wonder of your grace guide my steps, like the sun by day and the north star by night, as I travel into the gift of another year. Glenn Mitchell December 1993

2011 Annual Parish Meeting The Annual Parish Meeting and Pot Luck lunch for St. Andrew’s will be held on Sunday, January 30 following the 10 AM service. In addition to receiving reports and the Vestry’s recommended budget for 2011, we will be electing four new members to the Vestry. As of this printing, the slate is not complete; please watch Sunday bulletins and/or your email for more information. We will also be electing Delegates to the Diocesan Convention at Bucknell University June 10-11, 2011. At this annual meeting of clergy and lay delegates, Diocesan leadership gathers to review and reflect on the past year, consider resolutions affecting our common life, and pass a budget for the next fiscal year. In addition, there are workshops, guest speakers, wonderful worship. If you are interested in being a Delegate, please let Mother Christine know as soon as possible so that we may add your name to the ballot. Please mark your calendars and plan to be with us on January 30.
A Note From Ed Warren St Andrew’s Family, I’d like to thank all who contributed time, food, warms smiles and welcoming spirits to the 3rd Annual St. Andrew’s Christmas Day Dinner. We estimate that we served 65 guests. We had over 20 volunteers who greeted, served food, cleaned, etc. We have dozens who prepared pies & casseroles. Special thanks to Mary Grace and Cindy who did much of the heavy lifting for this year’s event. Thanks for all you do to make our church and our community a better place. Ed Warren
In the New Year… As the page on the calendar turns and we begin the Year of Our Lord 2011, many of us are making resolutions that are intended to make our lives better – resolutions about how we spend our time or our energy, what we do with our resources, how we care for our families, and/or how we care for ourselves. One resolution that I make over and over again is to be more faithful in spiritual practice – most particularly in daily prayer and meditation. Through the past year, I have discovered that online resources are increasing both in number and in richness. If you are interested, please check out the sites listed below: 1. St. Bede’s Brieviary [http://haligweorc.org/breviary/index.php]. This is an online version of the Daily Office, that can be customized according to style. It includes options for Morning, Noon and Evening Prayer and Compline, with the day’s lessons and canticles included. 2. Sacred Space [http://sacredspace.ie/] This prayer site is run by the Irish Jesuits. In addition to daily prayer online (they promise it only takes ten minutes) in multiple languages, they also provide seasonal resources. 3. At The Edge of Enclosure [http://www.edgeofenclosure.org/home.html] This site offers a weekly "self-guided" retreat to prepare spiritually for Sunday's liturgy. It also lists Suzanne's blog “Come to the Garden” which is about prayer life in an Episcopal community of nuns living on an organic farm. 4. Re:Jesus [http://www.rejesus.co.uk/home/index_n] A really interesting site out of the United Kingdom – directed toward younger seekers, divided onto four modules: Story, Lives, Spirituality and Creativity. If you know of other resources, and would like to share, please let Mother Christine know!
