CNI ECONOMICS AWARD 2016
REGULATION
PRESENTATION Article 1 - Conceived and established by the National Confederation of Industry, the yearly CNI Economics Award is designed to encourage high-quality applied economic research into relevant topics for Brazilian industry and will be governed by this regulation. ORGANIZATION Article 2 - The award is organized by the National Confederation of Industry - CNI, with the institutional support of the National Association of Graduate Centers in Economics - ANPEC. PARTICIPATION Article 3 - The papers must address topics related to Brazilian industry, as defined in Article 7. Article 4 - Only unpublished papers will be accepted. Paragraph 1 - Papers that have won or been awarded honorable mentions in other contests or awards, published as a book or chapter, in technical journal, national or international, will not be accepted. Paragraph 2 - Texts included in restricted-circulation documents of universities and research institutions, such as discussion notes and papers and similar documents, or published in conference proceedings, will be accepted. Article 5 - All papers must be written in Portuguese or English. Article 6 - Individual and group papers prepared by candidates of any nationality and educational background are entitled to participate. Sole Paragraph - Staff, consultants and employees hired by CNI, as well as their direct relatives up to the second degree, are prohibited from participating in the competition.

AWARD Article 7 - The CNI Economics Award 2016 will be awarded to the best applied economics papers on Brazilian industry. Sole Paragraph: Papers about, for example, industrial policy, market structure, business strategy, productivity, growth, industry transformations, international trade, innovation, regulation and employment, will be accepted; in the form of case studies, sector studies, regional or international comparisons, impact analysis focusing on public policies or changes in economic environment, as long as applied to Brazilian industry. Article 8 - Prizes will be awarded to the first, second and third place winners, as follows:
First place: R$20,000 (twenty thousand reals) Second place: R$10,000 (ten thousand reals) Third place: R$ 5,000 (five thousand reals)
Paragraph 1 - Prizes will be paid to winners in the Brazilian currency (reals). Paragraph 2 - For multiple authors on a winning paper, the prize will be divided among the eligible authors. Paragraph 3 - The amounts of the respective prizes will be subject to levy, deduction and withholding of taxes imposed by applicable law, at the time of payment of prizes. Paragraph 4 - If the winning author or authors live outside Brazil, the corresponding exchange rate charges and international transfer fees, as well as any other costs, will be at their expense. Article 9 - The Judging Panel may decide not to award the prize if it feels that all the submitted papers are of insufficient quality and/or inappropriate to the topic.
REGISTRATION Article 10 - The registration period will be from July 1st to August 31, 2016. Article 11 - Registration will be done by filling out the registration form (available at www.cni.org.br/ premiocnideeconomia) and by attaching the documents listed below and submitting them pursuant to Article 12: a) hard copy of the paper; b) electronic copy of the paper in MS Word or PDF; c) application form duly filled out;

d) copy of ID card or passport (in case of foreigners); e) updated resume. Resumes prepared in the CNPq’s Lattes Platform will be accepted; Sole Paragraph - In the case of group work, all team members must submit the documents referred to in the letters “d” and “e” of this article. The group will appoint a representative at the moment of registration. Roberto Simonsen, 10o andar ZIP Code: 70040-903 Brasília - DF Article 13 - The paper must meet the following requirements: a) it must have a cover containing the award’s name, the paper’s title and the author’s (or authors’) names; b) it must include an abstract limited to 100 words; c) it must be no longer than 30 pages (including cover, bibliography and annexes); d) it must be written in Portuguese or English; e) it must be typed in 1.5 or double line spacing in Arial, font size 11, on A4 paper (one side only) and with no more than 35 lines per page; f) it must be saved in Microsoft Word or PDF.
WINNER SELECTION PROCESS Article 14 - All entries will be judged by a Judging Panel that will be set up by CNI with the support of ANPEC exclusively for this purpose. Article 15 - The Judging Panel will consist of at least three (03) persons of unblemished reputation and recognized expertise in economics.

Sole Paragraph - Persons related up to the 2nd collateral degree to any author of the papers presented in the competition are prohibited from participating in the Judging Panel. Article 16 - The papers will be reviewed without author identification. Article 17 - The Judging Panel will be responsible for: a) reviewing all entries; b) selecting the papers that will be awarded the first, second and third prizes. Sole Paragraph - All papers will be reviewed taking into account the following aspects: a) compliance with the topic as defined in Article 7; b) extent to which the title and abstract are in line with the paper’s content; c) clarity of introduction to the formulated problem, motivation for choosing the topic and the paper’s goal; d) if the literature review is relevant and updated; e) appropriateness of the method used; f) relevance and correctness of conclusions (regarding the method and data); g) quality of writing and structure; h) originality of the paper and contribution to the field of knowledge and to the Brazilian industry. Article 18 - The Judging Panel’s decisions are final and indisputable and taken by an absolute majority of votes.
COPYRIGHT AND PUBLICATION OF PAPERS Article 19 - By participating in the prize, the authors of winning papers agree to assign the copyright to their respective works to CNI. Article 20 - Authors may request CNI to publish their winning papers on the technical journal of their choice. Upon CNI’s approval, the papers may be submitted for review by the journal and, if accepted for publication, must mention the award.

Paragraph 1 - The citation should be as follows: “This paper was awarded the __ place prize at the CNI Economics Award 2016 ". Paragraph 2 - Regardless of the journal where the article will be published, CNI reserves the right to republish it, but agrees to give due credit to the original journal of publication. Article 21 - All papers submitted for the CNI Economics Award, including non-selected entries, will not be returned and will become the property of CNI, which may use them at its discretion, provided that the source and author(s) are mentioned. AWARD CEREMONY Article 22 - Prizes will be awarded at the opening ceremony of the National Economics Meeting, organized annually by ANPEC, at a date to be announced later. Article 23 - CNI will bear the costs of lodging and travel within the Brazilian territory, in accordance with its internal rules, to the winners for the purpose of enabling their participation in the award ceremony. Sole Paragraph - For multi-author papers, CNI will bear the costs to only one of the authors. GENERAL PROVISIONS Article 24 - By submitting their work to take part in the competition, the authors agree to fully comply with all the requirements and provisions set out in this regulation. Failure to comply with any of its articles will result in the paper being disqualified. Article 25 – All cases not covered herein will be resolved by CNI.
