Preparing with Prayer The importance of prayer is not something we dispute in our circles. Yet, too often, prayer is the last thing on our “to do” list. For those preparing to participate in short-term missions (STM) this summer, prayer ought to be a vital component of their planning process. Our churches, too, can be actively involved in this important preparatory work as they anticipate sending out STM teams. One missions organization, SIM-USA, offers a list of prayer requests with Scripture support, including: Safety Issues: Pray for physical protection (Ps. 121:5-8) Pray for emotional and spiritual protection (Eph. 6:10-18) Growth Issues: Pray for spiritual growth (Phil. 3:10-11) Pray for growth in ability to trust God (Prov. 3:5-6) Pray for a Christ-like attitude toward servanthood (Phi. 2:1-8) Pray for an increased missionary vision (John 4:34-35) Ministry Issues: Pray for sensitivity to their host culture (1 Cor. 9:19-23) Pray for open doors for ministry (Col. 4:3-4) Pray for boldness in witness (Eph. 6:19) Visit www.OPCSTM.org and click on “General Info” to find the complete list in the Prayer Guide for Short-Term Missionaries.
May: Handy Volunteers Needed in St. Augustine, FL How about a working getaway to the beautiful coastal city of St. Augustine to help make renovations to Covenant OPC’s new church home? Schedule your work date for May now! May: Work Teams Needed at the Boardwalk Chapel in Wildwood, NJ nd rd th The 2 , 3 , and 5 weeks of May are available for volunteers to help with cleaning, painting, renovation, and plumbing to help the Boardwalk Chapel prepare for summer! Various household items are also needed by donation! Summer 2015: Serve at the Boardwalk Chapel The Chapel has openings for 4 more young men or women to serve as Volunteer Staff, witnessing on the beaches and boardwalk in Wildwood, NJ (June-August 2015)! (Drummer and Guitarist particularly needed!). Summer 2015: STM Trip to Japan The Presbytery of Ohio invites you to apply to join a 7-person team that will work alongside our missionaries in Japan (July 29 – August 10, 2015) to help with post-Tsunami relief work. Summer 2015: “English for Teens” Bible Camping Trip in Quebec (July 27-31, 2015) Two to three young men with camping experience are needed to help lead St-Marc Reformed Church’s annual summer outreach to French-speaking teens in Quebec! Summer 2015: Grace OPC, Middletown, DE Volunteers are sought to help Grace OPC present their VBS (June 15-19, 2015), and to participate in th church outreach during the Annual Middletown Peach Festival (Aug. 15 ). Summer 2015: Calvary OPC, Middletown, PA Volunteers are sought to help present VBS program entitled, “The King is Coming!” (July 20-25, 2015). Summer 2015: Calvary OPC, Schenectady, NY Teachers and volunteers are sought to help Calvary OPC present their VBS (July 27-31, 2015). Teach English to College Students in Asia Explore opportunities to teach college English classes in Asia this summer or throughout the coming school year! Qualifications, all details, and application forms can be obtained from Rev. Douglas Clawson at [email protected]. Help Refurbish OP Church Building in Utah Skilled volunteers needed to help complete renovations to the OP church building in Magna, Utah, in the heart of Mormon country.
