2017 APS Athletics Carnival (9-12 Year Olds) Dear Parents and Guardians Congratulations, your child has been selected to represent King’s at the APS Athletics Carnival (9-12 year olds), based on their outstanding results at our recent Primary Athletics Carnival. The APS Carnival is a team event, with every placing earning points towards our team’s total tally. This year’s carnival will be held at Somerset College on Thursday 10 August (Week 5). Members of the Athletics Team will receive more detailed information closer to the event. It is an honour to represent King’s in the APS competition and we congratulate your child on being selected as part of our Elite Athletics Team for 2017. King’s has always fielded a very competitive athletics team and we will continue to build on our strong platform this year. A big factor in our success in competing at the APS Athletics Carnivals has come from our commitment to training, in which we take great pride. The APS Carnival is the pathway for further representation in athletics with students selected to compete at Regionals and beyond, based on their performance at this carnival. We strongly encourage you to attend as many training sessions as possible with our outstanding list of professional coaches to assist your chance of making it onto the Regional Team after this carnival. Every age group champion team will receive a special lunch at Robina Town Centre with Mr Grady and Mr Muir (a treat worth fighting for). Squad Training In order to prepare our students and to build ‘team spirit’, training sessions will continue for the squad. The ‘Full Squad’ compulsory sessions will be held at Somerset Park on Monday and Thursday afternoons. Students will be transported to and from Somerset Park, via College bus, and will return to King’s (the bus bays adjacent to the High School) by 5:00pm. Please Note – there are only 4 compulsory training sessions (Monday, Week 3– Monday, Week 5) with qualified specialist coaches in sprints, hurdles, distance, throws and jumps. Yours faithfully
