Kearney Workforce Transportation Loop Highlights: • Funded by: AARP, Sherwood Foundation, Kearney Area Comm. Foundation, City of Kearney, Buffalo County Econ. Dev. Corp. • Liberty has the technology framework to track and provide individual rides to current and potential employees. • Liberty has legal authority and liability coverage in place to provide drivers paid as independent subcontractors. • Liberty has a local area manager able to problem solve. • Liberty executes the program on behalf of KearneyWORKS.
Program • Person needing a ride contacts Liberty. • Liberty sets up an account with the rider and books future trips based upon rider’s work schedule • Liberty contacts driver to ensure he/she can provide rides to/from work for next week. • Trips are booked, billed, and paid to driver on Liberty platform. • 2 great study details: 1. Real time data production 2. People getting rides to work TODAY
Example John works at Younes Convention Center: 1. John contacts Bobbi 2. Bobbi sets up rider account through Liberty with John’s email address, phone number, and method of payment. 3. Bobbi contacts Ted, who is retired and double checks that Ted can provide rides over the next week. 4. Bobbi books the rides to/from work over next week. 5. As the week progresses and life happens/schedules change, Bobbi, Ted, and John stay in contact to adjust trips as needed. 6. As rides happen: 1. 2. 3.
John’s card is billed ($1.10 booking fee + $1/mile; min. fare $5.10) Ted is paid every Friday for each ONE WAY trip ($.80/mile; min. fare is $3.20) Liberty (Bobbi) tracks and documents every trip, reporting and invoicing KearneyWORKS routinely
Program is a 6 month pilot project As of March 1, 2018, 3 potential decisions: 1. This program is meeting the need and stay the course, utilizing and paying for Liberty’s as a Mobility as a Service (MaaS) 2. We have enough data and a big enough need to go to the next level: van pool, fixed loop system, etc. 3. There really is no need and people that want to get to work are doing so without the help of KearneyWORKS and Liberty
Consider the Costs: $
$ $ $ $
Monthly cost of owning a car 50.00 Car Insurance 175.00 Avg. car payment in America is $471 25.00 Maintenance 80.00 Gas money Total est. monthly cost of owning a 330.00 car
KearneyWORKS/Liberty Program 2 way trip per day (avg length is 4 $ 10.20 miles) $ 51.00 Average cost per week $ 204.00 Average cost per month
Consider the Costs: Life is inherently risky. There is only one big risk you should avoid at all costs, and that is the risk of doing nothing.
