PROCLAMATION RECOGNIZING NEWPORT HIGH

PROCLAMATION RECOGNIZING NEWPORT HIGH SCHOOL BOYS SOCCER TEAM ON BACK2BACK WHEREAS, on November 11, 2017, the Newport High School Boys Soccer Team, won a title-game victory over Stayton, by a score of 2-1, to win the OSAA 4A boys soccer championship for the second consecutive year; and WHEREAS, the Newport High School Boys Soccer Team scored 76 goals during the 19 game season; finished second in the Oregon West Conference, and was ranked number eight in the state heading into the playoffs; and WHEREAS, all playoff games were played on the road, and the team traveled 33 hours and 1,500 miles by bus during the 11 day playoffs, concluding the season by beating Stayton which is a team that had beaten the Cubs twice during the regular season; and WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Newport wants to recognize the Newport Cubs boys soccer team on its awesome state championship win. NOW THEREFORE, I, Sandra N. Roumagoux, Mayor of the City of Newport, Oregon, do hereby proclaim the city’s gratitude and appreciation to the Newport High School Boys Soccer Team 2017 Oregon State Champions on winning Back2Back State Championships.
