Program Schedule CJL/LIFE & Legacy Professional Leadership Gathering Sunday, June 22 – Tuesday, June 24, 2014 Jewish United Fund/Jewish Federation of Metropolitan Chicago Ben Gurion Way 30 S Wells St., Ste. 5000 Chicago, IL 60606 This program will provide an opportunity for participants to interact with colleagues from throughout the country who are engaged in implementing the CJL model. It is an opportunity for those just beginning a CJL program and those looking to reinvigorate their existing program to share ideas. The sessions will be very hands-on and interactive and will be designed such that the participants will return home energized with many new strategies to implement. Keeping Your Legacy Initiative Invigorated This two and a half hour interactive session will focus on key strategies to successfully maintain and invigorate legacy initiatives over the long-term. Topics to be discussed include creating a community culture of philanthropy, maintaining motivation and enthusiasm for legacy giving, and keeping partner organizations, boards and lay leaders engaged in the effort. Participants will be exposed to information and strategies that will assist them in being a force to change the philanthropic culture in both their individual organizations and the community as a whole. About our Speaker: William D. Samers is Vice President of Planned Giving and Endowments at UJAFederation of New York, where he leads an 18 person gift planning department. Before UJA-Federation, he worked for the American Committee for the Weizmann Institute of Science (ACWIS) most recently as the Vice President of Gift Planning and Compliance. He is a past president of the Philanthropic Planning Group of Greater New York and served on the Executive Committee of the Partnership for Philanthropic Planning. Bill has presented at the AFP International Conference; the National Conference on Planned Giving; the Planned Giving Councils of New York, New England, Connecticut, Philadelphia, Palm Beach, Houston, and San Francisco as well as to the New York State Society of Certified Public Accountants. He has been published in the Journal of Gift Planning (2004) and the Conference Proceedings for the Partnership for Philanthropic Planning National Conference (2008). Bill has been quoted in many publications including the New York Times, the Chronicle of Philanthropy, and the Non Profit Times. “From Dec to Doc” This 1 ½ hour interactive session will focus on the importance of formalizing legacy commitments and the variety of methods for doing so. Through the review of three community formalization processes and case studies participants will gain the knowledge and resources to implement an effective formalization process as part of their legacy initiative. About our Speakers: Alyson Chensasky, J.D. is the Director of Legacy Gifts at the Jewish Foundation of Memphis; Jill Hagler, Principal Gifts Officer, Greater Miami Jewish Federation. Nancy Kipnis is the Assistant Vice President & Coordinator, Create Your Jewish Legacy for the Foundation for the Charlotte Jewish Community. Arlene D. Schiff is the National Director of LIFE & LEGACYTM, a program of the Harold Grinspoon Foundation. Stewardship 2.0 - Building and Sustaining Relationships In this 2 hour interactive session on enhanced and innovative donor stewardship, we will focus on ways to greater giving and deeper donor loyalty. By exploring new strategies as well as building new skills, participants and their organizations will be in better positions to maximize giving outcomes. The session is designed to enrich both your own professional fundraising skills as well as to prepare you for building fundraising capacity through training lay leaders and staff at home. This promises to be a high energy session with lots of opportunities to learn the pitfalls to avoid and the surefire ways to succeed. Examples of real cases will be shared illustrating the best and worst of donor relations. About our Speaker: Carol Seidman MSW, CFRE is an experienced fundraising professional who has spent her entire career in the not for profit sector. Carol is currently heading a $ 400 million Capital Campaign, THE TOMORROW CAMPAIGN at UJA Federation of Toronto. A respected lecturer and spokesperson, Carol is a sought after teacher, who has earned the AFP designation, Master Teacher. Passionate about teaching, Carol has given workshops across Canada, the USA and Asia.
