East Pier Build 5&6 East Boston MA,
PLEASE PROVIDE THE SPECIFIC PLAN NOTED. -McLAREN
PLEASE PROVIDE THE SPECIFIC PLAN FOR ACHIEVING COMPLIANCE WITH ACI 305R AND WHICH SPECIFIC RECOMMENDATIONS WILL BE INCORPORATED. -McLAREN Hot Weather Concrete Placement
Gentlemen: Summer Concrete- Hot weather concrete work will be performed in accordance with the recommendations of ACI 305. Prior to start of the placements the weather conditions will be reviewed to insure that the concrete can be placed effectively and without cold joints. S & F Concrete contractors will review the procedures and insure that the necessary equipment and materials are available to perform work successfully will be on site. If the placements cannot be made with adequate assurance that the concrete will meet all necessary requirements then the placements will be rescheduled to a day when the weather will allow the placements to be made safely.
Preparation for placement The placement of concrete should be planned and discussed prior to commencement of work. The size of the placement, the expected weather conditions, the equipment and materials needed, and the timing of the ready mix trucks should all be discussed and a plan of action adopted. The placement plan should identify what work is going to be done, who is going to do it, and when the placement is going to be done to avoid errors due to a lack of communication. Planning should also include a plan of action for emergencies and problems that may arise during placement. Water should be made available by others in order to dampen surfaces prior to placement. Placement The delivery of concrete should be monitored for compliance with ACI 305R Chapter 3. The temperature of the concrete at the time of placement will also dictate if the concrete will be placed. Samples of concrete should be taken per the frequency stipulated by contract to verify compliance with the slump and air requirements. The preparation and care of concrete cylinders has to be monitored for proper handling procedures. The concrete tested has to be deposited as closely as possible to the final location.

Large Slab Placement with KIM waterproofing admixture. As a result of previous unforeseen struggles with the mix at East Pier, the following protocol has taken place to improve overall finish-ability of slab placement that include the Kim water proofing admixture. Aggregate has made modifications to the mix; increasing w/c ratio to a .40, also the use of 2% polarset accelerator to counteract the KIM product, see attached (which was determined that the KiM product retards the mix) Upon placing concrete and screeding, "fogging" will be performed by pressure washer (misting the air to keep surface of concrete hydrated) Once bull-floated, we will apply a surface evaporation retarder, by spray can, to maintain hydrated surface and evaporation loss When concrete is ready to be troweled and broomed, the practice of "fogging" the slab with the pressure washer (misting the air and creating humidity with water) to facilitate workability of surface of concrete. USE CAUTION Curing Curing will be per ACI 305R Chapter 4.

EAST PIER 5-6
Attn: Steve Pirrello RE: Cement Concrete Mix Designs
Submittal No.: 4214
In accordance with your request, we respectfully submit the following mix designs for the above referenced project. These mixes have been proportioned in accordance with current ACI 211 and ACI 301 standards. All materials used in these mixes conform to current ASTM and AASHTO standards. Should higher slumps be required for placement or workability, the use of a high-range or mid-range water reducer is required. These proposed mix designs will meet stated strengths when concrete is placed, tested and cured in accordance with current ASTM and ACI standards and evaluated per ACI recommended standards and practices. Concrete mixes containing Pozzolans may show lower than normal strength at 7 and 28 days, however these concretes typically yield much higher 56 day results. Concrete containging Pozzolans are known to be more durable, resistant to sulfate attack and protect the concrete from Alkali-Silica Reaction (ASR). Concrete containing 40% or more Fly Ash has significant advantages when seeking LEED credits, 4.1 and 4.2 for Recycled Content and 5.1 and 5.2 for Regionally Manufactured Products. Typically 40% Fly Ash makes up 5% of the finished concrete and is produced within 500 miles of the manufacturing facility. Aggregate Industries requests copies of all approved mix designs prior to jobsite delivery. In order to comply with ACI 318 standards, we also ask to be included in the distribution of all concrete test reports. We recommend that a jobsite pre-pour meeting be held prior to any deliveries. This meeting would answer any questions regarding responsibilities in ordering, scheduling, testing and jobsite operations. Aggregate Industries produces and delivers concrete in accordance with ASTM C-94 Standard Specification for Ready-Mixed Concrete. Aggregate Industries can make no guarantees regarding vapor transmission or pH of concrete relative to floors. Please note: You must use Mix Code when ordering concrete. Product Data Sheet Edition 10.2005 Identification no. 106-54B Sika AEA-14
Sika® AEA-14
Air Entraining Admixture
Construction
Description
Sika AEA-14 admixture is an aqueous solution of organic materials. Sika AEA-14 meets the requirements of ASTM C-260 for air entraining admixtures.
Applications
Sika AEA-14 is recommended for use whenever air entrained concrete is desired. Ready-mix, precast and block producers can achieve predictable and uniform entrained air contents in concrete, even where harsh lean mixes are used or fly-ash is added to the concrete.
Advantages
Durability: Air entrainment is recognized as the most effective prevention against concrete scaling in exposed environments. Air entrained concrete delivers particular benefits in the form of increased concrete durability. This is important in colder climates where frost and freeze-thaw cycles can cause scaling and damage to the concrete surface. Air entraining agents help to prevent scaling by creating microscopic air voids that water trapped in the concrete can expand into when the concrete freezes, thus preventing cracks caused by the natural expansion. Entrained air voids in the concrete will also increase durability in harsh environments where concrete is exposed to deicing salts, marine salts and sulfates. Workability and Placeability: Workability and placeability are also improved by the lubricating action of the microscopic bubbles in the concrete. Concrete flows better, and bleeding and shrinkage is reduced because less water is needed to obtain the desired workability. Sika AEA-14 provides stable and predictable air contents in concrete, with uniform air bubble spacing throughout the concrete matrix.
How to Use Dosage
Dosage rates for Sika AEA-14 will typically fall between 1 and 3 fl. oz. per 100 lbs. (65 - 195 ml/100 kg) of cement to entrain between 4 and 6 percent air. Higher air contents may be obtained by increasing the dosage rate. Dosage rates will vary depending on the air content required for a particular project. Typically air contents will be specified in the range of 4 to 8 percent by volume. Other factors that may affect the amount of air entrained into the concrete include, but are not limited to: total cementitious content, type of pozzolanic materials, sand gradation, temperature and water content. Sika recommends that trial mixes be performed whenever material or any other changes are made that may affect the amount of entrained air.
Mixing
Measure the required quantity per batch manually or with automatic dispenser equipment. Add Sika AEA-14 to mixing water or sand. Do not mix with dry cement. When used in combination with other admixtures, care must be taken to dispense each admixture separately into the mix. Combination with Other Admixtures: Combination with other admixtures, particularly water reducers and retarders, may increase the amount of entrained air in the mix. Air contents should be checked with an air-meter after batching and dosage adjustments made at the concrete plant.
Storage and Shelf life
Sika AEA-14 should be stored at above 40°F (5°C). If frozen, thaw and agitate thoroughly to return to its normal state before use. Shelf life when stored in dry warehouse conditions between 50°F and 80°F (10° - 27°C) is one year.

Product Data Sheet Edition 10.2005 Identification no. 177-54M Sikament AFM
Sikament® AFM
Construction
Mid-Range Water Reducing Admixture Description
Sikament AFM is a mid range water reducing admixture utilizing Sika’s ViscoCrete Technology. It’s unique formulation is based on latest polycarboxylate technology. Sikament AFM is designed to meet the requirements for ASTM C-494 Types A and F.
Applications
Sikament AFM is recommended for use in the production of conventional ready mixed concrete, whenever high plasticity and increased early and ultimate strengths are desired. The superplasticizing action of Sikament AFM provides excellent workability at reduced water cement ratios.
Mid Range applications:
concrete slabs
concrete footings
concrete paving
Advantages
Mid Range Water Reducing Applications: Mid range application will be beneficial especially in ready mix applications. At a lower dosage, Sikament AFM can be used as a cost effective mid range water reducing admixture or simply as a water reducing admixture for production of conventional slump concrete. When used as a mid range water reducing admixture, water reduction up to 15% can be obtained. This application is ideal for use with lean, harsh ready mix concrete mixes or concrete containing flyash. Sikament AFM will improve workability and finishability.
High Range Water Reducing Applications: When used as a high range water reducing admixture, water reduction up to 25% can be obtained. The superplasticizing action allows for the production of high slump flowing concrete with excellent workability that can be placed with minimum vibration even at a low water/cement ratio. The dispersing action of Sikament AFM maximizes cement hydration efficiency and improves concrete’s early and long term compressive strengths.
The combined water reducing and superplasticizing action provide the following benefits:
Higher early and ultimate strengths for cost effective high strength concrete and earlier structural use of concrete.
Increased slump improves workability and reduces labor costs.
Full flow action aids in pumping and reduces need for vibration.
Greater concrete density reduces permeability and increases durability.
Sikament AFM does not contain calcium chloride or any other intentionally added chlorides and will not contribute to corrosion on steel reinforcement present in the concrete.
How to Use Dosage
Dosage rates will vary depending on the material used, ambient conditions and the requirements of a specific project. For general concreting applications, Sika recommends a dosage rate of between 5 -12 fl. oz. /100 lbs. (330-780 ml/100 kg) cementitious materials. If maximum water reduction is required, dosage up to 18 fl.oz./100 lbs. (1170 ml/100 kg) of cementitious materials may be used. In this case, delayed setting times may occur.
Dosage rates outside the recommended range may be used where specialized materials such as microsilica are specified, extreme ambient conditions are encountered or unusual project conditions require special consideration. In this case please contact your local regional Sika office or Sika Technical Service department at 1-800-933-7452 for further information.
Mixing For best plasticizing results, Sikament AFM should be added directly to freshly mixed concrete in the concrete mixer at the end of the batching cycle. Sikament AFM may also be dispensed as an integral material during the regular admixture batching cycle, or into freshly mixed concrete in a Ready-Mix truck at the concrete plant or
Construction
job site. To optimize the superplasticizing effect, Sika recommends that the combined materials be mixed for 80-100 revolutions, either in the concrete mixer or in the ReadyMix truck.
Combination with other Admixtures: Sikament AFM is highly effective as a single admixture or in combination with other admixtures. If used in combination with certain Sikament high range water reducers, it may affect the plastic properties of fresh concrete. Please contact your local regional office or technical service department at 1-800 933 7452 for further information.
Combination with Puzzolanic Materials: Sikament AFM is particularly well suited for use with pozzolanic materials such as fly ash and GGBFS because of its water reduction capability.
Packaging
Sikament AFM is available in 55 gallon drum (208 liter), 275 gallon totes (1040 liters) and bulk delivery.
