136 Oswegatchie RD ~ Letter from the seller We built this home 6 and a half years ago. My husband grew up in Waterford and always knew the Oswegatchie Colony was where he wanted to live one day and build his dream house. "The Colony" as it is known is considered one of the nicest sections of Waterford. The quiet tree lined streets, deeded water rights and short walk to private and secluded Sandy Point Beach make it a private oasis. There is very much a sense of community here. In the summer, many of us gather at the beach for a bonfire and to share a potluck dinner and cocktails. Riding bikes around the neighborhood and kayaking are also favorite things to do here. We love to walk down to the beach with our daughter and collect shells. It is beach living, without the hassles of actually living on the water, risking flooding or paying higher taxes and flood insurance. A lot of families trick or treat as a group and we have an annual cookie swap at Christmastime where we all get together for holiday cheer. When you are in the colony you feel as though you are in a little vacation spot...a million miles away from everything. In reality, you are 3 minutes to I-95 and grocery shopping and restaurants, but you would never know it or hear it. Waterford itself is a lovely community with good schools and friendly people. Oswegatchie Elementary School is right up the road. We use the playground all the time. We also have the Crystal Mall, and of course Target and Toys R Us, Bj's and many other stores are convenient to have right in town. A lovely library and public playground complete with a duck pond, round out the New England charm. The house itself was built to the finest specifications. we spared nothing building it, using the finest granite, cherry wood, crown molding, lighting fixtures and the like. Our front door for example has a beautiful black high gloss finish. We had it painted at an auto body shop so it would have the smooth finish of a car. You will also notice there is an elaborate sump pump system. Let us assure you there has never been a leak or flooding of any kind. We engineered the house to the ultimate degree of proactivity. It might have been a bit of over engineering on our part since we never have had to use it, but it is better to have something than not in our view.
We will be sad to leave our "Greystone Manor" as we lovingly call it and to leave the Colony, but as relocation brings us to a new chapter in our lives, it is our hope that you will enjoy the home we so lovingly built.
