What to look for in staging

Why is 20-30% Bloom “ideal”?

20% Bloom

Think of the bloom period as a bell curve. If we apply a fungicide at 20-30%, and

- Earliest time to consider application

it provides 10-14 days control, we protect the largest area under the bell curve.

- Usually 4-6 days after the start of flowering - Approximately 15 flowers open on main stem

30% Bloom

20%

20%

- Usually 6-8 days after the start of flowering - Approximately 18-20 flowers open on main stem

Start

50% Bloom

Finish

- Correct time for 2nd application in a split application program - Usually 10-14 days after the start of flowering - Some petals have dropped and pod formation has started Restrictions

TIMELINE Too early: we leave ourselves susceptible to “late infection”

- Re-entry is 48 hours - Allow four hours before starting irrigation if it is used

Too late: we leave ourselves susceptible to “early infection”

- Water pH greater than 8.0 may cause efficacy loss - Do not apply to bodies of water
