Please read the following team expectations, rules, and attendance policies. Please sign and return. Welcome to a new PCHS Girls’ Cross-Country season! We want every girl to finish their season healthier and stronger. This is achieved through dedication, commitment, and a focus on sportsmanship, respect, and honor as it relates to our sport of cross country, our team, and Providence Catholic high school. Tryouts: All girls make the team regardless of their running ability. Sophomores, juniors, and seniors can only join the team during the first trial week. Freshman can join the team anytime during the fall season. In order to remain on the roster, girls are expected to attend XC meets, practices, and follow team rules. IHSA Sports Physical: Due by the first cross-country race of the season. Dismissal: Girls will be dismissed for poor attendance (3 missed meets)(2 missed Friday makeups), poor communication with coaches, not following training and safety rules, or a negative attitude. Practices: Practices are Monday-Thursday 3:00-5:00PM (Friday 3:30pm MAKEUP DAY) Girls are required to have sport watches for practice/training. We practice rain, shine, or snow. XC Meets: Girls’ XC meets are held Saturday mornings and after school. Cross-country meets start at the end August and end in late October. Saturday meets - girls return to PCHS around 1pm. Weekday meets - girls return to PCHS around 7pm. Girls are expected to stay for the race after their own to support their teammates Girls are expected to stay for the awards ceremony if they qualify for an award. Everyone runs in all meets except Peoria-Notre Dame, Plainfield N. and IHSA Regionals. Groups and Distance: PCHS Girls’ Cross-Country is “one” team so both varsity and frosh-soph follow the same guidelines and policies. During training, athletes will be divided according to age and level of fitness.
We aim to run a Varsity-Top7, JV-Open, and Frosh-Soph group. On race days, athletes are grouped into different races according to previous race efforts, experience, training efforts, and attendance. Most varsity, frosh-soph, and open races are 3 miles. Travel and Food: All girls must ride on the team bus to the meets. Parents are allowed to transport their girls’ home after meets. Athletes are not allowed to be transported home by someone other than their legal guardian without written permission from that athlete’s guardian. Water and ice will be supplied. Girls may bring their own drinks and place them in the team cooler. Uniforms: Uniforms and warm-ups are the property of PCHS. All uniforms and warm-ups must be returned on uniform turn-in day. Please make every effort to return the uniforms in a timely manner. Names of girls that do not return uniforms will be submitted to the PCHS Athletic department. Gatto’s Team Dinner: Traditionally, the girls’ team concludes the season with a simple team dinner planned by the coaches where awards and senior gifts are presented. This is an intimate athlete only gathering which allows the athletes to say their final goodbyes in a comfortable setting at Gatto’s in New Lenox. Parent signature______________________________
