Psychology Course Syllabus Blanco High School Course Description: Psychology is a semester course for Blanco HS students designed to introduce students to the biological and theoretical foundations of psychology. The course will encourage students to develop analytical skills, conduct research, investigate the mind-body connection, analyze concepts of consciousness, evaluate theories of personality, develop an understanding of psychological disorders, evaluate the role and effectiveness of treatments and analyze theories of intelligence. Students will be expected to demonstrate their understanding of psychology through various projects, discussions and assignments. Classroom Materials: All students must have paper, pen (or pencil), a three ring binder, and all necessary text books with them in class each day. If a student arrives without any of the materials, they will be given a tardy and sent back to their lockers to retrieve the missing items. Grading Policy: The students’ grades will be weighted as follows: 30% - tests and major projects 60% - quizzes and in class assignments 10% - Homework and participation I will keep grades updated in a timely manner and will inform the students of their current grade often. Late work Policy: While most assignments should be able to be completed in class, students will occasionally have assignments that need to be completed outside of class. I expect these assignments to be turned in completed and on time however I realize that there will be times when extra time may be needed. I will always take late work for at least partial credit, so turning in an assignment late is always better than not turning it in at all.
