Pumpkin Patches Introducing Andover Fabrics new collection: Pumpkin Patch Plaids by Renée Nanneman Quilt designed and made by Becky Cogan, quilted by Freda Smith Quilt finishes 70" x 912" 12 Pieced Blocks: 18" x 18"
This harvest quilt made with rusty oranges, fall greens, and soft browns – all in country plaid – will keep you cozy as the temperatures drop. The large blocks are made with simple nine-patches that are quick to make with strippiecing methods. If you begin now, you may have time to make several quilts to give away at the holidays.

Making and Assembling the Quilt 1. Referring to Diagram 1, sew 2 colored strips and 1 black strip together to make a pieced band. Press seam allowances toward the black strip. Make 2 bands like this with the same color. Sew 2 black strips and 1 colored strip together to make a band (Diagram 2). Make 2 bands like this. Cut each band into 7 segments each 22" wide. Repeat with all 12 colors. You will have a total of 28 segments from each color. Cut 22"

2. Join segments in the order shown to make dark and light nine patches. So that the segments “work out,” first make 4 dark nine patches and 4 light nine patches in each of the 12 colors. Then with the remaining segments, make a total of 6 more dark nine patches and 6 more light nine patches. There will be a few leftover pieced segments.
