PVMS PTO Meeting December 5, 2012 Attendance: Ray Bernier, Danette Dykema, Sarah Minei, Penny Patch-Bartnicki, Amy Brosnan, & Melissa Lennon 1) Review November Minutes i) Read and reviewed the minutes ii) Sarah made a motion to accept the minutes as written and Amy seconded the motion. 2) Principal’s Report i) Board of Ed. Meeting – Monday, December 10th. ii) Family Fun (Craft Night) – Friday, December 14th from 6:30-8 p.m. iii) Parent/Teacher Conferences –Wednesday, December 19th (1) Students will have a half day of school (2) Staff Appreciation Luncheon sponsored by the PTO that day in the staff lounge iv) Friday, December 21st – Full day of school prior to winter break v) Wednesday, January 2nd – School resumes 3) Treasurer’s Report i) Current balance: $4,190.76 ii) Recent paid bills: (1) Movie license - $350 (2) Ice Cream Social reimbursement (Minei) - $208.42 (3) Trunk-or-Treating reimbursement (Dykema) - $39.35 (4) Justin Mazz (magician) - $500 (5) Holiday Store (start-up cost) - $180 iii) Upcoming Bills: (1) PTO Renewal - $679 4) Old Business a) PVMS PTO’s Non-Profit Status (501c3) i) Danette will meet with Bob in the district office on December 17th at 3:30 p.m. to finish the non-profit status paperwork. Once completed, it will be submitted. ii) The resubmission fee for nonprofit status will be $300. iii) Until nonprofit status is regained, fundraisers that require a nonprofit number cannot be done. b) Labels for Education i) Lucia Gonsowski is looking into what needs to be done in order to take over the coordinator position online. c) Box Tops – Penny i) November winners (top class and top student) have not been calculated yet. d) Big Y Education Points i) Current education credit is 54,000 points. ii) Current points earned will not purchase much, so the points will continue to accumulate until we can purchase needed supplies. iii) A reminder regarding this program will be sent in the PTO newsletter. Stop & Shop - A+ Education Rewards i) Paperwork must be completed to re-enroll the school in the program. DOUBLE CHECK ACCURACY! ii) A reminder regarding this program will be sent in the PTO newsletter. Shop Rite i) Sarah will check into whether Shop Rite has a rewards program for the school. Target i) We may consider this rewards program at a later time. ii) Adults must sign-up for a Target debit card or credit card in order to receive education credit for the school. Holiday Store – December 10th – December 14th - Penny i) Holiday Store is going well thus far. ii) There are good numbers of volunteers. iii) Lucia Gonsowski will help with inventory on Friday. December Family Fun Night (Craft Night) – Friday, December 14th i) Craft Night in the school gymnasium from 6:30 - 8:00 p.m. ii) Stations with various craft projects will be set up for the students (1) Cardboard carolers (uses toilet paper tubes & construction paper) (2) Paper chains (3) Snowflakes (4) Card for U.S. military (Amy has a Navy contact) (5) Design/frost/decorate a sugar cookie (a) Parents will be asked to donate sugar cookies) (6) Jingle bell necklaces (7) Scratch ornaments (8) Decorate a bag (used later to hold all the night’s treasures) iii) Supplies have been ordered and will use materials from previous projects as well iv) Set-up will begin at 5:30 p.m. v) A flyer will be sent home and include the request for sugar cookies (1) Extra sugar cookies can be saved for the Staff Appreciation Luncheon Staff Appreciation – (approximately 40 staff members) Wednesday, December 19th i) On conference day, the PTO is asking for families to volunteer to help with the luncheon in the staff lounge: (1) Make a crockpot soup, sandwiches, or cookies/dessert (2) Set up (bring tablecloths from home) (3) Greeters (4) Clean up ii) All staff members will receive an invitation to partake in the staff appreciation luncheon

PVMS PTO Meeting November 14, 2012 5) New Business a) Field Day Options i) Strawberry Park – will provide staff, schedule, and all equipment needed for a full and fun day at the campground with a fee of $7-9 per student. Bussing would be free. Students could either buy a bagged lunch through the school or bring their own lunch. ii) Amy mentioned a company in Rhode Island that will come to the school and set up a field day experience on site. iii) Mr. Bernier will mention both ideas to the staff for feedback b) January Family Fun Night (Bounce Night) – Friday, January 25th i) An event co-sponsored by Parks and Rec in which three to four bounce houses would be rented for the night from Brian Hinton in Ledyard. ii) To help reduce the “wait time” for the bounce houses, the spin art card activity could be done as well as creating a supervised area for gym activities (basketball, jump rope, hula-hoops, etc.) c) PTO Newsletter i) Will be sent home soon. ii) Spirit Wear will arrive soon. iii) Families are encouraged to create a meal for the Irvine family. The meals can be brought to school and frozen. iv) Families interesting in making a meal should contact Kim Heinzman to make arrangements. d) O’Neil Theater i) The new company is not ready to offer a fundraising program this year. However, they are interesting in working on a fundraising program for the future. 6) Next Meeting: Wednesday, January 2nd
