D- 6u for your leteer. A couple of items hot off the press ! As I thought, the heir to Ospisdale was a cabinet maker. Sheep-farmer, road-maker and cabinet makerl must have been a versatile man. The statute labour list may require some explaining. The vast majority of people paid 2 shillings. People renting holdings over f5 paid rnore in proportion. As you will see most holdings paid rent, _in money but some still paid in grain, measured by the bo1l (B). The list also records why sorne people were excused paying. Normally such lists included offspring who, for instance as fishermen or labourers, were liable for payment as well as the heads of household. This list appears to be merely a list of householders and, where appropriate, tenants payi.ng over f5 rent. Hugh McCulloch didn't get it quite right! Many thanks
