Question Import Filters Question Import Filters enable Users to convert RTF, DAT, or XML files into a format that can be imported into ExamSoft quickly and easily. This feature is extremely valuable for Users wanting to import questions in bulk which have been exported from LMS and other systems. Please note that use of the Question Import Filters is warranted only if the User’s original question file meets the file format criteria described in this document; otherwise, Users can instead refer to the “RTF Importer Quick Reference Guide” (click here) for detailed information on question types, formatting, and importing guidelines.
Selecting the Appropriate Filter Users can select from a variety of filters, which are designed for specific RTF, DAT, and XML file formats exported from a variety of LMS and other systems. The section below provides information on these filters, including a description, the type of file being converted to an appropriate ExamSoft-friendly RTF format, and a sample question shown before and after conversion.
Converting DAT and XML Files QTI, QML, and Moodle The QTI, QML, and Moodle filters are all used to convert XML or DAT files which have been saved/exported from each respective system. There are QTI filters available for three different question types:
question types which include Fill in the Blank questions, questions that DO NOT include any Fill in the Blanks, and questions that are comprised of Fill in the Blank questions ONLY.
Users should take care to select the QTI filter that is most appropriate for the specific pool of questions they wish to import.
Converting RTF File Formats Clean MSWord Formatting This filter eliminates any underlining formatting that has been picked up in a Word document as sometimes happens when a document is copied and/or resaved several times by different Users, etc. Before the file can be converted, it must first be saved as an RTF. The Clean MSWord filter will then convert the RTF file to plain, unformatted text, which will reduce the chance of unintended formatting issues during the import process.
