SUMMER! It's here!. We were lucky with great Spring weather, but now it's HOT!! This is the perfect time to take a class and meet new friends in the cool classroom at Quiltz. We have many new classes and some that are repeating., So if you want to learn something new or missed a class last quarter, here's your chance. If you are leaving the Valley for the summer, we will miss you. But remember our online store is growing each week. We are trying to make it easier to finish those projects and stay connected. For those of you staying "home", watch for our CHRISTMAS IN JULY celebration! No matter where you spend your summer, Be Safe. And we will see you in the Fall.

BASICS BASIC REDWORK EMBROIDERY Sharron Meyer Friday, Sept. 30th Skill Levels: All Levels Time: 1p-4p The love of redwork embroidery goes back many years and remains popular today! It‘s easy, relaxing and very portable. We will start at the very beginning, going over the use of a light box and tracing your patterns to fabric. You will learn basic stitches and the technique to get fine inside and out side points as well as colonial knots…and keeping the back of the project looking nice and neat too. If you enjoy doing handwork of any kind, this class will open up some new possibilities. Fee: $ 20 includes kit BASIC BEGINNING QUILTING Sharron Meyer & Karen Petry Wednesday, Sept 21, 28 AND Oct 5, 12, 19, 26 AND Nov 2, 9 Skill level: Beginning Time: 10:30a-12:30p This is an eight-week program that will take you from rotary cutting to a finished quilt in weekly two-hour classes. You will learn the basics of rotary cutting, accurate piecing of two simple blocks, machine quilting, and binding your 39‖ x 48‖ size quilt. In addition, we love to toss in tips and tricks along the way. You must be comfortable using your sewing machine and prepared to do the weekly homework on your project. If you ever wanted to make a quilt and had no idea where to start, we have the perfect solution for you! Fee: $85 (Plus $15 for student handbook, collected at 1st class) This fee total for all 8 classes

ADVANCED BASIC BEGINNING QUILTING Sharron Meyer & Karen Petry Wednesday, July 20th, 27th and August 3rd, 10th, and 17th Skill level: Beginning/Intermediate Time: 10:30a-12:30p The goal of this five-week class is to build piecing and cutting skills, and to introduce new techniques. Students will learn new techniques – two methods of flying geese, pinwheels, curved seams, and mitered borders. This class is suitable for anyone comfortable with rotary cutter and sewing an accurate 1/4 ― seam, There will be homework each week that must be completed before the next class. Fee: $55 (Plus $8 for student handbook, collected at 1st class) This fee total for all 5 classes

Pillowcase – Monday, July 11th - Personalize your bedroom by making your own pillowcase. A great first project and a way to brighten up your bedroom and make it your personal retreat. Instructions on making the pillowcase are included as part of the fee. Come prepared to have fun. Fee: $20 Lunchbag – Monday, July 18th - Recycle those old brown bags and start using your own lunch bag. Students can customize their bag to create a bag that‘s not only good for the environment, but looks good too. Fee: $20 Tote Bag – Monday, July 25th - Everyone loves a good tote bag and now is your chance to learn how to make one. Great for a day at the beach, shopping or just whatever. Fee: $20 Quilt/Pillow – Monday Aug 1st and 8th - As the final class in our summer session we introduce you to the world of quilting. We will be creating a quilt that folds to make its own pillow. The quilts will be tied and we will also go over different ways to decorate. Great for placing on your bed, covering up to watch TV or as a gift. Fee: $40 for both parts

Applique Basics introduce the student to the fine art of hand sewing and hand applique! Based on Mimi Dietrich‘s book Baltimore Basics – Album Quilts from Start to Finish. The student will practice needle-turn applique along with many other hand applique techniques. The class will consist of two lessons each month. Completion of a fabric sewing book or small wall hanging can be the end result. LAST QUARTER‘S STUDENTS WILL CONTINUE ON - 3p-5p ON THE ABOVE DATE – LAST QUARTER STUDENTS DO NOT PAY REGISTRATION AGAIN Fee: $75 (Plus $20 registration fee, collected at 1st class) This fee total for all 6 classes

TECHNIQUES FUSIBLE APPLIQUE: MCKENNA RYAN WAY Barb Janson Tuesday, August 23rd Time: 4p-8p Skill Level: All Levels Learn the basic steps of this quick and easy technique while creating a charming ―Under the Sea‖ art quilt as Barb explains and demonstrates fusible web applique - the McKenna Ryan way. Find out just how to stretch that cute mini-art quilt around a 12‖ canvas frame. No mitering or binding needed. Fee: $30 FABULOUS FRACTURES Bobbie Ward th Thursday, July 14 12p-3p or Sunday, Sept. 11th 1p-4p Skill Level: All levels Very interesting concept on strip piecing using 4 identical squares that are fussy cut from your fabric. We will discuss and have samples of the types of fabric that work best for this type of project. I have also come up with suggestions that are not in the book that will make the project easier to assemble. Fee: $20

Learn the basics of how drawing programs work. Most programs have the same commands, so if you can conquer the basics the rest is easy. The class is going to go through basic commands and drawing techniques. We will work on shapes, fills, outlines and converting jpg‘s to vectors. If you are an embroider and want to work on your own designs… Corel draw talks to digitizing programs. Corel will talk to DrawWings, Bernina Designer, Babylock Master Works and Janome Digitizer Pro. Barb Janson Saturday, August 27th Skill level: Beginning Machine Appliqué Time: 10a-2p Cute and adorable seasonal wall quilt from those talented designers , ―Crazy Old Ladies.‖ It‘s wacky and whimsical using a variety of little Halloween prints to make these ―witchy leggin‘s and ruffled skirts. Great gift for your shoe-crazy girl friend! Fee: $30

CUSTOM DESIGN A SWEATSHIRT Sue Bushmaker Saturday, July 30th Skill Level: Beginner/Intermediate Time: 10:30a -3:30p Time to ―Step Out of The Box‖ and create a sweatshirt jacket. You will choose a pattern and fabric to custom design a sweatshirt jacket or vest. We will talk about problems and solutions to make your fabric work for your design. This class will help beginners make their first jacket and an advanced person to excel in custom design. You may not get the entire jacket done in the class, but you will leave with the knowledge to finish it at home or bring it to BYOP. Fee: $30 CASTING SHADOWS Sunday, July 31st Skill Level: Intermediate

You will learn to use the Omnigrid tool for making easy and accurate quarter- square triangles. Join us for an afternoon of fun and learning. You will have just as much fun creating pinwheel projects with the Little Twister. So, grab a charm square pack and your twister tool along with the other supplies and come learn a simple way to an old technique. There‘s no limit to the projects you can make with your twisting tool. Fee: $30

Classroom Policies Our Class Dos: * Do pay ahead of time to ensure your spot. Payments may be made in the store, or by phone with a credit card. * Do show your receipt of registration to receive 20% off on class supplies only (we are not able to give 20% off after class has occurred) * Do bring your supplies to class. * Do be on time. * Do cancel a class ahead of time. You may do so up to 48 hours prior to class and receive a store credit. You could also have someone else take your place in class. ART FUN AND EASY BARGELLO SHIRT Kenna Hough Tuesday, Sept. 13th Skill Level: Beginning Time: 5:30p-8p Learn how to transform a basic denim shirt (or sweatshirt) into a cute jacket. Simple strip sets are the key to this easy transformation. Once you make one of these quick and easy Bargello shirts, you won‘t want to stop until you have a closet full and have made them for all your friends! The pattern calls for ¼ yard each of four coordinating prints but I always get 1/3 yard pieces. That way you have plenty to make your panel as wide as you want/need. Choose a color scheme for this ―Stash Buster‖ project starting with an inspiration /or theme fabric. Experiment with color and design using the traditional 1930‗s ―Century of Progress‖ block with a contemporary twist. The orginial quilt was done in red and white, but we can use any color combination. There blocks are mostly all reversed applique. The best part is no decision on which colors to use. These blocks are addicting. Fee: $15/ month 1p-4p

Have fun with wool applique. No needle turning required. There is no end to the embelishments you can use – buttons, tassels, lots of floss and threads. This quilt can be any size you want. You can use all wool, or add flannels or brushed cottons (pre-shrunk, please) Bet you can‘t just make a few blankets. Fee: $15/ month

Pick four or five of your favorite colors and have fun arranging and rearranging the different shapes. Then relax and enjoy the applique – no more decisions to make. Fee: $12.50/ month

ADVANCED APPLIQUE - 12 DAYS OF CHRISTMAS Arlene Southworth Wednesday, July 13th, Monday Aug. 15th and Sept. 19th Skill Level: Intermediate/ Advanced Time: 1p-3p Lords and ladies are dancing across this 12 block Christmas quilt. You can choose to piece the background blocks or leave them plain. Let your imagination go. You can embellish by adding embroidery, buttons, bows and lace. The printing is done with an acid-free pen. This is a mystery class where the finished project will be revealed as you put your special ingredients together. You decide what size to make your Blueberry Cheesecake quilt depending on how many squares you want to make. This class is designed for beginners to advanced quilters who want to work with strata strips. You will learn how to sew an accurate ¼‖ seam. You will also learn how to make an easy bias binding. This general-use bag is made of sturdy pet screen that will withstand the washer and air drying. The screening lets air flow through the bag. Great for a gym, swimming, or grocery bag. Come join us for lots of sewing and fun as we help you organize your stash. Stop spending valuable sewing time searching through your fabrics trying to find a specific one. Start making our Quilter‘s Holdall to organize all of your fabrics! Each one can hold up to 100 fat quarters, so that your stash is organized at a glance. Once you learn our easy construction methods, you‘ll want to make several of these to organize all of your fabrics.
