QWR RANGE OF PVCU PIPE FIRE STOP SEALS AND QWW INTUWRAPS Quelfire QWR Fire Stop Seals and Quelfire QWW Intuwraps prevent the spread of fire, smoke and hot gases through plastic pipes which penetrate fire compartment walls and floors. Regulations
Installation
Building Regulations impose limitations on all pipes passing through fire compartment walls and floors. Quelfire Fire Stop Seals allow plastic pipes to meet the requirements of the Building Regulations, but avoid the necessity of constructing fire resistant ducts. There are no published standards for this component but Quelfire Fire Stop Seals have been tested according to BS 476: Part 20: 1987 where pipe diameters of up to 200mm have met insulation and integrity criteria for this standard for up to four hours. The product is also available to suit rectangular plastic ducts.
Quelfire QWR Fire Stop Seals should be bolted to the structure using the correct fire resistant fixing, e.g. sleeve anchor for concrete and masonry construction and steel hollow wall cavity anchors for fixing to plasterboard etc. They may also be cast or partially cast within the floor or wall using Quelfire QF2, provided that requirements are not more than fire resistance of 1 hour.
Composition/Manufacture The Quelfire QWR Fire Stop Seals consist of a continuous pressed stainless steel flexible shell containing graphite based intumescent material which reacts under the influence of heat to exert pressure on the pipe as it softens, forming a carbonaceous char which provides an effective insulation plug thus preventing smoke and fire passing through to the adjoining compartment. The QWR Fire Stop Seal has built in fixing brackets which can be used to secure it to the structure. Fixings are available on request. The QWW Intuwrap is similar to the Fire Stop Seal except that it has no steel shell and is installed by casting within a concrete floor or masonry wall. Where the hole through the floor/wall is oversize, the QWW Intuwrap should be grouted in using Quelfire QF2 Fire Protection Compound.
Application Quelfire QWR Fire Stop Seals should be used anywhere where a plastic pipe penetrates a fire rated wall or floor. For horizontal pipework one unit should be fitted to each side of the wall.
The soffit of the floor or face of the wall must be smooth and where there are irregularities in the surface, the space between the product and the floor or wall should be made good using Quelfire Intumescent Mastic. The product must be placed around the pipe and securely fixed to the structure with the correct fixings. QWR Fire Stop Seals may also be fitted to fire resistant linings for partitions and timber frame construction. They should be fixed using a suitable hollow wall cavity anchor. These should be purchased separately and are available from Quelfire. Fire resistance in these situations is equal to the fire resistance of the fire resistant board to which the product is fixed. Quelfire QWW Intuwraps should be placed around the plastic pipe and secure using the built in self-adhesive tape, with the lower edge of the Intuwrap level with the soffit of the floor. It is essential that there is no gap between the Intuwrap and the surrounding construction. Any gaps should be grouted using Quelfire QF2 Fire Protection Compound. Note: It is only necessary to grout between the Intuwrap and the surrounding structure. There is no necessity to fill the entire penetration with a fire stopping compound for the remainder of the thickness of the floor or wall.

Performance FIRE When subjected to heat the intumescent material reacts producing a barrier of carbonaceous char or foam which expands inwards exerting a pressure, thus compressing the softened pipe to form an effective insulating plug which provides a seal against flames and hot gases. LIQUIDS Quelfire QWR Fire Stop Seals and QWW Intuwraps are not affected by water attack and the stainless steel shell of the Fire Stop Seal provides excellent corrosion resistance. DURABILITY Quelfire QWR Fire Stop Seals and QWW Intuwraps are expected to last the lifetime of the service installation.

CARE & MAINTENANCE Once installed, Quelfire QWR Fire Stop Seals and QWW Intuwraps require no maintenance. As with all fire protection products they should be inspected regularly and any damaged units should be removed and replaced. QWR
