Racquetball Single Rules 2016 - 2017 All players are required to bring their UNCA ID to all games. No UNCA ID, no play! Consumption of alcohol prior to and during Intramural events will not be tolerated. If any player or spectator, regardless of age, is in possession of alcohol or is determined by the Intramural Sports Staff to be under the influence of alcohol, his/her entire team will be disqualified for the remainder of the season. Captains are responsible for the actions of all team members and spectators. Every participant and spectator is expected to abide by the student conduct policies and rights. I. The Game: A. Self-officiated matches with court monitors to facilitate tournament. Supervisors will make final decisions on un resolved conflicts. If teams do not resolve own conflicts, outs, etc. supervisor may declare multiple players out.   

First player to win 2 out of 3 matches advances Games 1-2 will be played to 15 points o Game 3 will be played to 11 All games will played in the Student Recreation Center Courts

II. Equipment: A. Protective eyewear is a must. Players may check out a ball, racquet, and eye wear from the front desk if available. Players may also share racquets in between rounds when needed. B. Closed toed shoes must be worn at all times. Shoes with metal or screw-in cleats are not allowed. Shoes must be one piece molded plastic/rubber or regular tennis shoes. No Vibram Five-Finger Shoes. C. Jewelry of any type is considered illegal equipment for safety reasons. III. General Rules A. Serving  The ball must be served from within the service zone, denoted by the two solid lines running parallel to the back wall of the court.  The serve must strike the front wall first, then first strike the floor between the short serve line (backline of the service zone) and the back wall.  If the server commits a fault serve, the service will be canceled, and the server will get a second chance to serve the ball.  If the server commits an out serve, the service will be canceled, and the server will lose the serve. B. Return of Service  The receiver must remain in the return zone; marked by the back wall and a broken line marked five feet from and parallel to the short serve line.  The receiver must not contact the ball until it has broken the plane of the safety zone line (broken line).  Failure to legally return the serve will result in a point being scored for the server. C. Playing Guidelines  Generally, it is illegal to switch the racquet from one hand to the other during a point; however, both hands may be used to grip the racquet on contact.  If a dead ball hinder occurs, the ball shall be served again. Dead ball hinders include: i. 1. Hitting or touching an opponent with a returned ball. ii. 2. Unintentional body contact with an opponent that interferes with returning the ball. 3. Screening the ball from the opponent, preventing the returning side from seeing the ball.
