Rainscreen Wall Using Furring Strips - Drainage Mesh-Bottom
Rainscreen Walls with Drainage Mesh Bottom of Wall
Walls that can drain and dry last a lot longer than walls that stay wet. An air gap between the siding and sheathing lets both materials dry.
1. Flash the bottom of the wall to push water away from the foundation.
A continuous sheet of drainage mesh let water drain down and air flow up while keeping bugs out.
2. Install housewrap as normal, overlapping the base flashing. 3. Drainage mesh is fastened continuously over the wall and held above the base flashing 1/4 inch. 4. Install siding as normal, keeping the spacer strip and first course 1/4 inch above the base flashing for drainage. Do not caulk this bottom gap.
