It was lovely to have an author in school yesterday. The children across school listened to ‘Saviour Pirotta’ talk about his books and his love of reading. I am looking forward to Sport Relief next Friday, we are asking for a £1 donation towards the charity and children are allowed to wear sports clothing. Children will also be completing a 1 mile walk, jog or run of a special course around the school grounds!
READING CORNER COMPETITION On Thursday afternoon the children took part in their very own Dragon’s Den. All the presentations that Mrs Heighton and Mr Smith watched were very impressive and well thought out. Next week the children will receive letters explaining if they have been successful in their pitches for £50. Make sure to ask your child about their class reading corner. There are some amazing ideas based on Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory, Harry Potter, Space and even a castle! Everyone at school is really looking forward to seeing the finished reading corners and the school council are going to have a very tough job choosing a winner!

NEXT WEEK: What will your child be learning during ‘Science Week?’
FOR SAFEGUARDING SCHOOL GATES (ASDA & DOLPHIN ROAD) OPEN AT 3pm (Mon-Thu)

1:50pm (Fri) We have been continuing to learn about shapes in Nursery, the children have enjoyed using the nets to fish for shapes in the water tray. Once the children had caught a shape they had to describe it using mathematical language. The children are now very good at retelling "The Little Red Hen" story, remembering all of the words and actions. Some children brought some leeks back from the garden, and helped to chop them up to make some soup.
This week we have been very busy! We have been practising our Talk for Writing story ‘Goldilocks and the 3 Bears.’ We have innovated our stories by changing different parts such as the characters, items and objects. We were very excited to have an author come to see us and read us two of his stories. We then had a go at creating our own stories.
Year 1 have had an exciting visit this week from the author Saviour Pirotta, who told us lots of stories that we found really interesting and funny. In Maths, we have been securing our knowledge of position and movement. A big thank you for all parents who attended Parent Consultations this week, we hope you found it beneficial.
Thank you to everyone who came to the Parent Consultation evenings, I hope you all found it beneficial. This week Year 2 have been continuing to receive letters from Wonderland requiring us to setup Science investigations, which we have all had great fun doing. We have also been learning all about time in our Maths lessons. Test our knowledge by asking us the time at home.
Year 3 have continued reading ‘The Iron Man’ this week and we have looked closely at how Ted Hughes uses language for affect. In addition to this the children have been writing persuasive letters from memory and, next week, will start to create their own. In maths the children have developed greater knowledge about the properties of 2D shape and have been classifying them. Both classes also worked hard to get their pitches ready for the dragons (Mr Smith & Miss Heighton).
Year 4 have been working on multiplication in maths. The children need to keep practising their time tables both at school and at home ready for times table tests on Friday's. Please also make the most of Mathletics, it is a fantastic maths resource. Year 4 have also been busy preparing for the production. If you have not bought any tickets yet to avoid any disappointment please just select the date you wish to attend, the amount of tickets you require and send it in a labelled envelope with the money.
Year 5 enjoyed a Fairtrade workshop this week and would like to thank those children who led it. In DT we are trying different muffins to see which we like best (yummy)! In English we have started to write our non-chronological reports about different sea creatures. We also really enjoyed designing our book corner and delivering our pitch.
Year 6 have started a book study in our English lessons. We are reading ‘Friend or Foe’ by Michael Morpurgo and have created some great diary entries by pretending we were one of the characters. In maths we are working hard on volume and surface area. Also, we enjoyed finding out about Fairtrade during a lesson delivered by some very confident and knowledgeable Year 5 and 6 children.
