July 17, 2016 Today we welcome the Biti family: Ergest (Gesti), Edlira (Eda), Amaris (almost 3), and Elia (10 months). Gesti and his family are Albanians who live and work in the capital city of Tirana, Albania. Albania is predominantly a Muslim country with almost 60% claiming that as their faith. Just 17% claim to be Christian. Gesti has pastored in the Church of the Nazarene for 7 years. Gesti currently holds several positions of leadership where he is serving: NYI (Youth) president for the last 8 years, NYI Central European field coordinator and the general secretary for the Albanian Evangelical Alliance. Eda is an ordained elder in the church and serves in various roles in the church including the education coordinator for European Nazarene College. Gesti and Eda were married in 2012 then moved to lead the church in Tirana, Albania. After their wedding, both Gesti and Eda felt the Lord calling them to focus full-time on the ministry of the church, so Gesti stopped working and began his ministry and Eda became the main financial support for the family. The church they serve is located in one of the poorest areas of Tirana. Most of the work involves the Roma people and families with various problems. In Gesti’s words: “It seems like God is always bringing these hurting families to our Church, and this allows us to serve them and show the love of Christ.” The church has started a kid’s club, providing meals and teaching every day of the week at the church. They also have started a mentoring program using soccer, with 40 boys ages 9-15 attending! On top of all this, the church is open every day with opportunities, for all kinds of people. Gesti and Eda are focusing on prayer and believe that through prayer God can use the church to change the entire community. Don’t forget to use your High Pointe Summer Serving Guide to minister to your community this summer!
