Minnesota Hockey Recreation League Code of Conduct The Minnesota Hockey Recreation League holds all of its members to a high standard of conduct. Players, coaches, parents and officials are all expected to respect the rules of the game and to display good sportsmanship. Having fun and being safe are two key ingredients to having a successful year. The Rec League has a ZERO TOLERANCE policy for abuse and harassment both on and off the ice, including social media. This includes but is not limited to abuse of referees, fighting, bullying, the use of alcohol, tobacco or drugs, racial or ethnic slurs and overly aggressive behavior. This policy applies to players, coaches, parents and officials. Violators will be dealt with on a case by case basis with penalties starting with immediate removal from that event and escalating to expulsion from the league. Points of Emphasis During the 2016-17 season, the officials at Rec League games will have an increased focus on limiting the following infractions: Checking - This is a no-checking co-ed league. The safety of our players is of the utmost importance. Players are allowed to have body contact with other players and are encouraged to play hard. However, purposefully checking opponents is not acceptable in this league. Slashing - We have seen a rise of stick penalties over the last few years, especially slashing. Players must learn how to play defensive hockey without attacking opponents’ hands. Hooking – Similar to slashing, hooking is another stick penalty in which players use their stick on the opposing player rather than the puck. These penalties are unnecessary and should be avoided.
