May my child play down a grade level? - No. Players will not be permitted to play down into a lower grade level. May my child play up a grade level? All requests to “play-up” into a higher grade-level will be reviewed by OYAA Director of Soccer. (1) Email [email protected] no later than January 15, 2018. (2) Requests must also be included in the Special Request/Comments box during the registration process. Possible Accepted/ Approved Reason: play with sibling Not Accepted/ Approved Reasons: -- Play with the same/previous season’s team -- My child needs to play up so he/she can be challenged OYAA’s policy will remain that teams are created from scratch for the start of the Fall season. Teams stay together Fall to Spring. Parents will have the option of making a special request. Example, my child would like to play with coach ABC; or, my child would like to play on the same team as player XYZ.

Combined Grade Level Divisions The goal is to create single grade level division. However, if the total number of players available to form teams is does not support stand along divisions, OYAA will consider combining grade levels for scheduling purposes. OYAA Director of Soccer reserves the ability to review the grade level divisions each season to create the best possible experience for the players.

Pre-K Ages expanded Each season the OYAA receives requests to allow players who are turning 4yrs old to participate in the OYAA Pre-K (U5) division. The new expanded Pre-K division will allow players who are turning 4yrs old by the second game of the season (4/15/18) to participate with their peers. Introduction of the Small Sided Game Formats “What is best for the player? This is the #1 question driving my decisions for the OYAA Soccer program.” says Mike Lentz, OYAA Director of Soccer. “Kids want to be involved in the game…they want to touch the ball…maybe even score a goal! The small sided game (SSG) format changes – as recommended by US Soccer Federation, US Youth Soccer, and FIFA - are the right way to go. The SSG standards ensure children will play on soccer fields that are age, ability and developmentally appropriate. A child who touches the soccer ball, make decisions, experiences success and failure, will become better soccer players because he/she is learning.
