Recruiting... As the recruiting season continues, some important tips and reminders that will help you in your search for the next program changing recruit. In Division III, you are allowed to: 1) Make unlimited phone calls to anyone in 9th grade or older. You are not limited to the July 1 before senior year rule as is Division I. 2) Offer an official visit to those who have entered his or her senior year of high school. Each individual is allowed one official visit per campus, not lasting more than 48 hours. Prospective student-athletes are allowed an unlimited number of official visits to Division III schools. It does not count against his or her Division I visit totals. 3) Texting a prospect is NOT permitted. 4) “Friending” a prospect on a social networking site is NOT permitted. 5) During an unofficial visit, you are not allowed to cover the cost of transportation or housing. You may cover the cost of one meal in the campusdining hall for the prospect only. 6) While recruiting off campus, you are allowed to speak with those who have completed his or her junior year of high school. During a competition, you may not speak with the prospect until he or she is done with any ’practice or competition related activity’. You may speak with the parent/guardian at the site of competition during the practice or competition. That being said, if you are at a multi-day competition or an event with heats and finals, you must wait until the final day and session of competition. 7) You may invite a prospect to attend a camp or clinic but the camp or clinic must be open to everyone (limited by number or age) and the prospect must pay the same amount as everyone else. The camp or clinic must have instruction and cannot be a pure competition/combine/try-out event. This is only a brief summary of NCAA recruiting rules.
