Chairman’s Opening Remarks at the Brong Ahafo Regional Consultation on the Preparation of a Long term National Development Plan for Ghana Delivered by Brong Ahafo Regional Representative of NDPC, Mr. Ntim Adjei Jacob Buabeng
Date: 12th October 2015 Venue: Tyco City Hotel, Sunyani My colleagues on the high table, Fellow Commissioners, Nananom, Distinguished Ladies and Gentlemen, All other protocols observed; I am humbled by the short introduction that sent me into the chair. I am Ntim Adjei Jacob Buabeng, the NDPC Commissioner for Brong Ahafo Region and for this meeting, today and tomorrow, I am the convener. Let us remind ourselves that Article 87 of the 1992 Constitution says, among other things, that the National Development and Planning Commission (NDPC) is to advise the President of the Republic of Ghana on development planning, policies and strategies. The motto of NDPC is “Together We Build.” I would like to debunk the idea that NDPC is an extension of the NDC (National Democratic Congress). It is not true. NDPC has been there since 1992. We had it when President John Agyekum Kufuor was in power. So it is a statutory body in the 1992 Constitution. Truly, together we are going to build Ghana and together we are going to prepare our development plan. Proper planning will give the country a sense of direction. I would like to crave the indulgence of those present here to help me run today’s programme to a purposeful end. Mindful of the fact that we are Ghanaians and that together we build and together we swim ashore, I want everybody to open up because we are not coming to present a development plan to you but as a broad consultative meeting, we are coming to solicit ideas and go to build it into a national consensus. On this note, I thank the organisers for making me part of this programme as chairman. God bless all of us. Thank you.
