Feeder steers and heifers sold mostly steady to 5.00 higher, with some instances 3.00 lower. Feeder steers and heifers in the southeast were mixed, from 4.00 lower to 5.00 higher. Demand moderate to good, on moderate to active trading. Feeder prices saw a rebound after last week’s severe losses that reacted to the lower CME futures and steep declines in the feedlot trade. Live and feeder cattle futures were in for a rough ride this week trading on both sides of the spectrum in nearby and forward months. Cattle buyers paid little attention to the board this week and continued to bid until orders were filled as many livestock markets will be closed next week in observance of the 4th of July holiday. All major markets will be closed next week, with very few late-week auctions open for business. Bassett Livestock in Nebraska had a large sale on Wednesday, moving over 6,000 head of good quality cattle. Several loads of steers weighing 630 pounds averaged 191.31 and 662 head of steers averaging 667 pounds brought 186.32. A load of NHTC certified heifers weighing 605 pounds sold for 189.50. Also, two loads of spayed heifers weighing an average of 820 and 885 pounds traded at 151.75 ...
