Maine School Administrative District 11 REGULAR MEETING

Board Chair Fles declared a quorum present and called the meeting to order at 7:05 PM.

Candace Avery, newly appointed Director from the Town of Randolph, was sworn in prior to the meeting by Andrea Vintinner - Disch, Notary Public.

INTRODUCTION PUBLIC COMMENT FOR ITEMS NOT ON THE AGENDA District resident and parent, Terri Lynn Pulley, shared with the Board information regarding the School Bus Bag Initiative.

REVIEW AND APPROVAL OF AGENDA /MINUTES

VOTED: Motion by Director Jermyn to approve the agenda as amended, seconded by Director Couture. 10,165 – 0 2 – 0 Student Motion carried.

VOTED: Motion by Director Jermyn to approve the minutes of the August 4, 2016 Regular Board Meeting, 10,165– 0 seconded by Director Boudway. 2 – 0 Student Motion carried.

RECOGNITION AND CELEBRATIONS A. The Board recognized the appointment of Candace Avery to the MSAD 11 School Board

A. STAND UP FOR STUDENTS ( REFERENDUM QUESTION 2) – DISCUSSION Information regarding the Stand Up For Students Initiative was shared with the Board. The Board discussed views regarding the initiative and whether to endorse. The Board was addressed by Sarah Singer, Brunswick School Board Member. After it was disclosed Ms. Singer was a paid staff member of the Stand Up for Students Initiative, Directors Boudway and Jermyn advised the Board against allowing Ms. Singer to speak further. After the Board’s discussion, no action was taken.

National School Board Association (NSBA) Leadership Conference On behalf of the Maine School Board Association, Chair Fles attended the National School Board Association Summer Leadership Seminar August 10th to August 15th in Chicago, IL.

October 6, 2016 – Regular Board Meeting The Superintendent informed the Board that she would not be in attendance at the Board’s October 6th Regular Meeting due to a personal commitment.

EXECUTIVE SESSION

VOTED: 10,165 – 0

Motion by Director Jermyn to go into executive session at 7:58 p.m. to discuss the Education Technician / Administrative Assistant Association Agreement pursuant to 1 M.R.S.A. § 405(6)(D), seconded by Director Couture. The Board reconvened at 8:05 p.m. Motion carried.

VOTED: 10,165 – 0

Motion by Director Avery, to go into executive session at 8:06 p.m. to discuss the contracts for the Director of Curriculum & Instruction and the Business Manager pursuant to 1 M.R.S.A. § 405(6)(A), seconded by Director Couture. The Board reconvened at 8:24 p.m. Motion carried.

VOTED: 10,165 – 0

Motion by Director Jermyn, seconded by Director Cone, to add language regarding longevity from the Administrators’ Collective Bargaining Agreement to the Director of Curriculum & Instruction and the Business Manager’s contracts. Motion carried.
