Rehabilitation programme of residential care home: compare the results in two different models Ribas,S.; Infante,P.; Fernandez,D.
16th International Conference for Integrated Care 2016
Introduction • Residential care Homes are psychosocial and community
devices for people with a severe mental illness. The device works with users to achieve their personal independence, retrieval capabilities and the greatest possible autonomy. • Although the model of Residential care Homes was initially
defined by the Department of Labor, Socials Affairs and Families, Generalitat of Catalonia, in 2004-2005, presently we can find a diversity of intervention programmes. This diversity suggests there may be significant differences in the evolution of the rehabilitation processes.
Introduction • The study shows the results in two different
models of residential care homes: HOME 1
HOME 2

Methodology SCALES
Statistical analysis
• BELS: assesses the level of autonomy for basic skills of daily living • HONOS: assesses the impact of the mental illness
• The Cohen's d • The Pearson product moment correlation coefficient
• Total 63 individuals
Population
• Primary diagnosis of schizophrenia • Age: from 36 to 65 • The users were divided in two groups, one from each residential home and separated in three interval groups according to age
Results
(scores 2013)
Conclusion • When the age increases the community skills deteriorate in all users of the
sample • There are significant differences in the impact of mental illness between the
two models of residential homes only in the age range from 56 to 65 • We can consider that this difference is due to the implementation of a
comprehensive rehabilitation programme within the home • Applying this kind of programme the impact of mental illness should not
increase when the users are unable to come to external rehabilitation centres • Therefore, it is essential to maintain rehabilitation programmes integrated
within the resources of residential homes, to insure the preservation of skills, personal and functional abilities as well as acquiring new habits and lifestyles
