Early-Career Scientists Secure Research Funding Participants in ASHA’s Lessons for Success conference report funding success. In a survey of 2010 and 2013 participants of ASHA’s Lessons for Success—an annual conference that provides in-depth training in grant preparation to early-career scientists—nearly 70 percent of each cohort reported securing research funding since participating in the conference. Of those who had submitted a grant proposal to the National Institute on Deafness and Other Communication Disorders (NIDCD), 54 percent of the 2010 cohort and 33 percent of the 2013 cohort had been awarded funding. Across all funding sources, proposal success rates were highest for intramural grants and extramural nonfederal grants, and for the 2010 (five years post-conference) cohort (see graphic).
