One pair size U.S.10 ½ (6.5mm) needles or size to obtain gauge. One pair size U.S. 8 (5mm) needles (for bind off). Large cable needle (cn). Stitch markers. Split-ring marker or safety pin (for marking RS). Yarn needle
GAUGE In patt st, 28 sts and 20 rows = 4"/10cm, using larger needles.
INSTRUCTIONS Be sure to mark the RS and always slip the first stitch of every row purlwise. Use smaller size needles to bind off, to prevent flaring. SCARF With larger needles, CO 62 sts. Est patt: Rows 1 (RS)–8: Sl 1 purlwise with yarn in back (wyib), [p1, k1] 3 times, place marker (pm), *k2, p2; repeat from * across to last 7 sts, pm, k1, [p1, k1] 3 times. Row 9 (RS): Sl 1 purlwise wyib, [p1, k1] 3 times, slip marker (sm), [k2, p2] 4 times, C16F, [k2, p2] 4 times, sm, k1, [p1, k1] 3 times. Place marker for RS. Rows 10–18: Repeat Row 1. Row 19 (RS): Sl 1 purlwise wyib, [p1, k1] 3 times, sm, C16B, [k2, p2] 4 times, C16B, sm, k1, [p1, k1] 3 times. Row 20: Repeat Row 1. Repeat Rows 1–20 until piece measures approximately 72"/183cm, ending with Row 8. Change to smaller needles and BO in patt.
