When life gives you lemons, you make lemonade, right? That is former Lady Bronc Janele Henderson’s approach on life right now. On December 29, 2015, Janele was diagnosed with Hodgkins Lymphoma, a cancer of the lymphatic system. Janele immediately attacked the disease head on with the amazing positivity that she has always had and completed many rounds of chemotherapy. In July, however, after a life-changing trip to Rio, Janele found out that her Hodgkins Lymphoma was now in stage 4 and had to prepare for an even tougher battle. All of us who know Janele know that she is a fighter and will remain that way due to her unfailing faith. She is prepping as you are reading this for a STEM cell transplant that will hopefully lead her on the path to recovery. Janele has begun documenting her journey through a blog that we would like to share with our Rider Family. (thevalleyofthedrybones.wordpress.com) We also want you to know that on January 28th at our alumni and friends game we plan on having a fundraiser as well as bring awareness to Leukemia and Lymphoma. More details will be release soon.

A recognizable face will be on the bench this year. Fan favorite, Marritta Gillcrease ’15, is now a member of the Rider Women’s Basketball coaching staff in the position of Director of Women’s Basketball Operations. After a very successful year of playing and studying in Ireland, Gillcrease returns to Lawrenceville, NJ to help the Lady Broncs take the next step. “We are thrilled that Rita has decided to join our staff, said Rider Head Coach Lynn Milligan. “ Rita made a huge impact on and off the court during her time here, and I know that she will be a great role model for our student athletes”

Hello Lady Bronc fans. This is the time of the year that our annual Friends of Women’s Basketball brochure will be hitting your mailbox. We have a very loyal and consistent membership group, but we hope to add more members than ever this year. There has been a lot of great enhancements surrounding our program with the completion of the practice facility, new basketball coaches suites, and the construction of the new locker rooms for both programs. With these projects comes the need for furniture, equipment and other things to make them the best spaces possible for our student athletes. Please consider membership. You should be receiving a letter shortly describing what the funds raised this year will be used for as well as some pictures of progress made. If for some reason you didn’t get the brochure or have misplaced it, you can always donate online at: www.rider.edu/giveathletics and select women’s basketball. Thank you in advance for your support.
